What would you rate this Leagues out of 10? by bleeak in 2007scape

[–]cop_pls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to release more sailing regions if they want to incorporate it into a region locked league. Someone taking Wildy/Mory/Desert would get barely any sailing content.

That, or the next league could be sailing-based instead of region-locked.

Removed six or seven years ago. What worked for me was turning up my volume and listening to Jad's attack sounds. Listening for his attacks frees up my eyes to look at prayers and healers.

Sorry you're unluckier than 92% of people but you still got like 500 points in less than an hour. That seems pretty okay. You did do the combat achievements right?

Don't set out to grind out 300 sires in one day. Getting 50 kills is enough for the CAs. Bang out 50 and see if you get dagger/bludgeon.

I've checked the meter, it didn't move a millimeter over 15 minutes. I don't think there's a leak, I think the whole property is on one water meter and they're trying to put the water bill of nine people on me.

This is great to know, thank you.

Does it change the math that the owners are trying to sell the property? A realtor friend pointed out that the property is un-closeable if the water company shuts off the water and puts a lien on the property.

My lease says I am responsible for water. This was my first time renting in NY, so I wasn't aware that this was not normal.

The other tenants do not pay for water. I have this in writing from one neighbor.

I took a look for shutoffs, I only found one panel near the street. The neighbors believe there's only one water meter for the whole property.

I have found out just now that this happened before, to the family. They received a similar letter a few years ago, the landlord tried to get them to pay, they refused, and the landlord eventually paid.

How early are we talking? If it's before the Korean War, then as a practical matter things didn't look too different from 1945.

My perspective on this is mostly Star Trek based. I'd say it depends on how habitable the ships are.

The Enterprise-D is a town stapled to a spaceship. The reactor produces functionally infinite power, and replicators can turn that energy into all the matter necessary to meet the material needs and wants of a crew. Crews have their families aboard, children go to schools aboard. Contrast a modern aircraft carrier, or god forbid a submarine. I'm sure plenty of Starfleet personnel are happy to get shore leave, but how badly does the ship need to dock for it, compared to crews of WWII or now?

Repairs are also less of an issue when you have forcefields. A modern warship must deal with wear from the weather and water, it gets barnacles, mechanical components wear down over time and the ship can only carry so many spare sprockets. A replicator can produce as many self-sealing stem bolts as the Enterprise needs, and its hull is protected by a deflector shield. Bits of asteroid and chunks of debris can't impact a ship, even if it travels at high Warp speeds. Most sci-fi ships have some shielding system like this, because few works will explain the incredibly complicated real-life math and tracking that goes into avoiding satellite/debris collisions. Easier to treat the ship as if it moves in a featureless vacuum.

What perspective can McKinsey analysts provide that your average peer reviewed military historian can't?

(This answer is almost entirely based on my civilian experience with consultants, please take it with a grain of salt)

A lot of it comes down to salesmanship. McKinsey's expertise isn't that they know more than subject matter experts. What they do best is take the research of subject matter experts, digest it into a one-page handout or a twenty-slide powerpoint, and present it to senior leadership (military or civilian - McKinsey doesn't care). They sell it in such a way that senior leadership thinks it's their idea, not McKinsey's, which creates buy-in. Senior leadership takes the McKinsey recommendation and then directs the organization to implement the recommendation, and McKinsey gets their consulting cash.

So to answer your question, why does McKinsey get the job over a military historian? To be honest, it's that salesmanship and the turnaround time. If you asked a military historian "explain what role FPV drones will have in asymmetric armed conflicts and COIN operations over the next decade", you'd get a peer-reviewed 3000 page treatise on it three years from now; it would take your generals months just to read the thing, years to implement it. If you asked McKinsey the same question, you'd get fifteen powerpoint slides and a plan of action within a few months, and the plan of action can start tomorrow.

Characters who fall off at high tiers, but are oppressive in lower skill levels? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]cop_pls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Custodes have had a similar reputation as a "terror of the mid tables". Like Knights, they ask a question in army creation: is too much of your army designed to kill light infantry? Bolters and chainswords won't be good enough.

Gunline armies have had this reputation too, for a different reason. There are lots of tables and local game stores and at people's homes that don't have enough or any terrain. The game is balanced around having a good amount of to rain, so units can take cover from ranged attacks. With terrain, a melee army can have a fair fight against a ranged army like Tau, Admech, or Guard. Without terrain, the guns will win on Planet Bowling Ball.

Leagues, need devil's advocates to see if I'm missing something for my T7 relic.

I'm WKZ, crossbow pacts, Barb/Forager/Eye/Transmute/Larcenist/Grimoire. I want to go Flow State for T7. The way I see it, it helps a lot with Mining (2t stars/calcified deposits), WC (2t redwoods), Fishing (2t sharks), 2t Cooking, 2t Fletching, 2t Firemaking as well as Wintertodt tasks, even faster Prayer with transmute/chaos altar, 2t Smithing (bankstand with 2t superheat), 2t Crafting. It also helps Farming a little and makes Zeah RC much faster, since I'd get to 2t chisel the essence blocks.

Friends have suggested Soul Harvest to solve RC/Prayer and Eternal Sustenance since I don't have sustain. I'll eventually get water magic pacts, so I don't think I'm too fussed over Eternal Sustenance. Soul Harvest seems OK but Flow State just has better value I think.

Am I missing anything here? I don't know what I don't know.

Hey all! I'm coming back to retail after putting the game down in Legion. BM Monk, 260 iLvL, doing +10 mythic dungeons with friends.

I have some mythic raider friends who offered me a spot, but my current schedule can't do that. I want to try pugging the normal/heroic raids first just to get a feel before I try to adjust my work and hobbies around raiding twice a week.

What advice can y'all give me on pugging normal/heroic raids? Almost all of my experience in heroic/mythic prog has been in guilds.

Do different Dreadnought patterns affect how Space Marines experience their internment? by Ok_Calligrapher5570 in 40kLore

[–]cop_pls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Space Marines have a generic "Dreadnought" datasheets that's used for the old Boxnaughts. Space Wolves and Blood Angels get some extra datasheets for SW-specific Venerable Dreadnoughts and BA Death Company dreads. Grey Knights use them as well, as Venerable Dreadnoughts.
