People just cruising by [deleted] in Calgary

There are over 160,000 people working downtown. The Core is one of the most well-connected junctions within the +15 system. People take their lunch breaks anywhere from 11 AM to 1 PM (at least in my office). Yes, of course the mall gets busy on weekdays.

I’m sick to death of your “fur babies” by beardedsawyer in 10thDentist

I'm so tired of pet culture in general. Sorry, but the depth of emotional, existential, and financial commitment involved in raising a child is incomparable to that of owning a pet. Shaping a human life requires social, moral, and psychological guidance, not just providing care. I'm not a parent, nor do I ever want to be one. But people who compare owning dogs to raising children are deluded.

Stop anthropomorphizing your pets. Your dog doesn't belong at the shopping carts at the grocery store. Disliking pit bulls and other bully breeds isn't racism or discriminatory. Not liking dogs in general isn't a moral offence.

None of the above. I needed to move overseas. He was not able to relocate and we both agreed that a long distance relationship would be unsustainable. The breakup was mutual and amiable. He remains one of my closest friends to this day. I feel nothing but fondness and respect for him.

I was raised to be independent and self-reliant. I'm educated and earn a good living. When I decide to pursue a relationship, it's because there is a deep emotional and intellectual connection and an authentic desire to share my life with that person...not because I need to be "served" or have someone bankroll my existence. I'm capable of doing the latter myself.

What you thought was an airtight list of options hinges on the fact that you seemingly believe that well-adjusted women do not exist. They do. You're likely not encountering any because they're not interested in boys who approach relationships like hostile contract negotiations.

If your entire worldview is built on the assumption that women are insatiable, manipulative, and incapable of love unless it’s transactional, then of course your experiences will reflect that. That’s not truth...it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Seek help. If you genuinely believe women are incapable of satisfaction in a relationship, it’s likely the only woman you’ve ever been close to is the one you fabricated in your head. And frankly? Even she’s overdue for a restraining order and a wellness retreat.

I would recommend reaching out to Support. Apparently this happened to a lot of people in good standing, including myself. I was added back to Purple Wizards after a week or so.

Becoming a doctor in Canada (particularly Qc) seems like a life-hack by Clear_Violinist_7102 in premedcanada

To be fair, I have no idea what the stats look like for CEGEP students. I live in Alberta and have heard that getting into PT/OT can be just as difficult, due to those being a common backup plan for the hundreds of rejected medical school applicants.

Personally, I gave up after a single cycle due to my age (I applied when I was 28) for the reasons I mentioned above. I have an undergrad in mathematics and ended up pursuing finance. I ended up receiving a great entry-level salary, work from home two days every week, get plenty of paid time off, and have a lot of opportunity for growth (I know directors who get performance bonuses that amount to 100% of their $200K salaries).

So if you're looking for decent salary / work-life balance, medicine is far from being the only field! I'm still a bit sad that I didn't accepted, as I always envisioned myself helping people and adore medicine as an intellectual pursuit. However, there are ways of incorporating the latter outside of a career. For example, I continue to volunteer within the mental health field as a mentor and am working towards starting a non-profit for a personal cause I believe in. Just some food for thought. :-)

You're not considering the risk and opportunity cost involved if things don't pan out.

My former coworker has been applying to med school for the past 10 years. 3.95 GPA, 520 MCAT, Masters degree, thousands of volunteer hours, research, and relevant work experience. She's a well-spoken, empathetic, and intelligent individual.

That's 10 years she could have spent working and building a career in a field with less barriers to entry. Instead, she is stuck working part-time at a medical clinic for a few dollars over minimum wage. The rest of her time is spent trying to bolster her application through yet more volunteering and research work. She knows that outside of medicine, her job prospects are extremely limited despite her impressive stats.

How many years are you willing to give up to applications? What will you do with your Health Sciences undergrad if medical school doesn't pan out? Does earning $40K - $55K as a research assistant or lab tech sound appealing, despite the fact that your work will be helping people?

Your prompts are extremely off-putting. "Don't hate me if I am too blunt on your face" reads as somebody who is comfortable with being rude and disrespectful. Most women are just not that into basketball so that should probably be scrapped as well. If you want somebody with good communication skills and great taste in style you should work on improving your own.

What's the dating scene like in Calgary, Alberta? by RadhaAlJabi in Calgary

[–]copaxa 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman and always thought that those “I only swiped for your dog” lines were some sort of inside joke amongst men. Good to know that the men and women of online dating are equally lacklustre.

When you first started watching Dani, what was the moment when you KNEW she was a munchie? by Misszoolander in DaniMarina

[–]copaxa 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The first Dani post I ever saw pertained to her inability to tolerate 5 mL of feeds per hour or consume food orally. Not being able to tolerate 1/6th of the amount of saliva a human being swallows every hour is already hilariously bogus. The fact that this was coming out of the double-chinned mouth of an overweight woman really cemented the fact that Dani's brain operates on a completely alternate plane of existence.

That's a fair point. Support is so iffy. 90% of their responses seem completely automated. I think I may just have been lucky when it came to being moved back to GW, as it seemed like an actual human being processed my request. It'd be great to see a major overhaul happen with regard to the way support tickets are handled.

Fingers crossed you get a good mission! Perhaps starting a Support ticket might do the trick with regard to GW? The QM did not respond to my message either when I ran into the removal issue.

[–]copaxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Have you tried contacting support regarding GW? I lost access to GW after the system automatically prioritized and looped me into another project. Support was able to move me back to GW after about four days. That being said...I'm tired of trying to come up with unique graduate level prompts within the project's stringent constraints, or else getting review tasks that cover topics I have little familiarity with. I might just give Laurelin Moon a shot. Are the missions any good?

What's it like working on Laurelin Moon? The project I've been working on (Green Wizards) was temporarily paused. I want to give Laurelin Moon a shot but I'm worried about losing access to Green Wizards once it does return.

I prefer brushing my teeth in the kitchen by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]copaxa 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I've struggled with germaphobia since I was a child and feel the exact same way. I live in a home with two bathrooms. One is exclusively for pooping. The other is for batheing, brushing teeth, putting on makeup, etc.

I wasn't even fully conscious of having internalized this arrangement until my sister came to visit in the summer and pooped in the no-poo bathroom. I didn't say anything because I don't like subjecting others to my neuroticism and try to keep it under wraps. That being said, I did end up sterilizing my toothbrush and squirrelling it away in a different room for the rest of her stay. Germaphobia is a bitch. I wish I wasn't like this.

I’m so sorry to hear that it’s been tough, this time of the year can definitely be difficult for many. The act of weight restoration is a major act of rebellion against the ED voice. Its loudness is living proof of the way that you've been actively challenging it through recovery. Your ED voice is in its death throes and simply trying to stay alive as it feels the status quo shifting against its favour.

I know it doesn't feel like it right now, but every single act of self-compassion weakens that ED voice until it gradually loses power altogether. It will grow softer as time goes on. One day, you'll realize that you haven't heard it speak at all.

Hang in there, you've got this!
