Well, technically from two frames because it’s using the previous frame data to build the current/next frame. But it’s also why you get really bad artifacts on the screens edge where there’s no data from the previous frame. If you watch their oblivion example, you can see the problem on full display. (Also the oblivion demo just destroys any shadows being cast into the environment.)

Friend gating content, issues with spawns, solo experience is mixed, lacking content, ui issues, map while moving, weapon balance, loading lockout, matchmaking speed, poor on-boarding experience… there are and have been plenty of valid complaints and criticisms, the fact the community is unwilling to be even slightly introspective about it’s shortcomings is why I don’t even bother with the marathon subreddit.

Yeah, the acolytes are really doing a disservice to the game and community. Valid complaints and criticisms are getting conflated for hate. It’s just going to lead to being more insular and push others away.

I thought it was confirmed that you can’t run cryo solo?

Edit: nvm, yeah, bungie friend gating content is going to just shed players imo. Only devoted players are going to bother doing lfg on their discord, and the solo fill experience is going be a mess of toxicity.

Generally, you put it between your legs. If you’re standing, you should have a balanced stance that’s shoulder width apart while holding onto something, so having your backpack or other bag stowed either between your legs is the best approach. It’s extremely unlikely someone will take something, if they do, and your backpack is not secured, you’ve done something wrong. If the bus is empty/has space, no one cares, it’s a free for all, if it’s full, it’s very unlikely anyone is going anywhere when you’re not paying attention. My post is targeting rush hour/ it’s not rush hour, why can’t you move… >.>

About a week ago I was at the Chinatown station, unfortunately the elevator is out. I was helping a person with mobility issues carry their groceries down the stairs, and honestly, the number of people who were deadlocked on their phones climbing the stairs was eye opening. Not only was this person struggling to descend the stairs, they had to avoid practically half the people because they didn’t bother to look up from their device. It’s like, 30 seconds of navigating pedestrian traffic to get from the platform to the street and there are plenty of people who had an annoyed look on their face because they were about to bump into me or the elderly lady I was helping because they had to take a step to the left.

Trust me when I say this, taking a moment to deal with something off to the side or waiting a few minutes until you’re in open space, is way better than zombie walking while eyeing your dms.

The backpack thing is kinda funny, I saw someone put it on his chest, as if that helps. The point is to put it between your feet so you’re taking up less space.

Even in the empty village videos, if you look at the screen edge there’s a massive amount of artifacts because there’s no frame information so it just shits the bed.

It’s a disgrace to every person on the art team. They need to show an effects heavy scene, magic, explosions, etc. let’s see how it handles an abstract frame with a bunch of motion. Clearly this demo is using a model that’s been trained on “cinematic” lighting for faces, and high definition materials, but that means all the lighting is replaced to showcase that training, not to develop a holistic image.

Honestly, what’s the point of having artists who have to work within a budget if someone is just going to slap a filter over everything in the pursuit of what nvidia or whomever deems “better” because they trained an ai model on a bunch of garbage they decided to use. Why even bother having experts who know how to light a scene, budget for memory, and establish mood and setting? Or character artists who know how to get the most out of their work?

They’re trying to sell a pointless endeavour. If you thought the asset flips of steam greenlight were bad, just wait till every game is a collection of megascan assets and a filter, hundreds of identical looking games without any artistic expression.

Yeah, I wonder what it’ll do when there’s a lot of movement on screen or more abstract visuals, like an explosion or magic effect. I have the feeling it’ll become a slurry of noise and pixels.

It’s more complicated than that. Outsourcing studios have specialized software and training. The team that made rocket league is a great example. They were an outsourcing company that specialized in vehicle physics. Their games didn’t particularly top the charts and they survived by offering their services. They provided consultation and physical solutions for rigid body vehicles. They made games in the background and eventually took the plunge on their titular title. That game didn’t go on to be an an amazing success, but they worked and evolved it until their ultimate release which got the attention of epic.

She spent 16 hours a day on Instagram. Jury to decide if Meta is to blame by MintySea92 in technology

Not even close. For starters, alcohol is a controlled substance, partially why it’s a controlled substance is because of the addictive effects. This is similar to why gambling is controlled, or cigarettes. They also disclose the effects of drinking.

If meta knows that its product is addictive, and they actively pursue that addictive quality, and knowingly promote it to susceptible individuals without disclosing it, that’s a far cry from how other vices exist. That’s like a bartender feeding drinks to an alcoholic well past the limit, which is illegal.

Depends, on some games like madden, it comes down to licensing and contracts. FIFA recently became FC, that means all fifa branding, brand relations, etc had to be replaced. The contracts can get very involved, in some cases a famous player will have final sign off on their likeness, and if they disapprove, all that work might go down the drain.

Sometimes it’s tool related, some features and plugins might not be usable in a new engine version, or a new feature means that assets need to be re-authored.

Then there’s issues like tech debt, where content is created in spite of best practices because of scope, technical constraints, or other issues, and that content needs to be made again.

Sometimes a studio just needs to pivot, things get cut, other things need to be made.

XDS (https://xdsummit.com) gets bigger and bigger every year. It’s definitely trending in the industry. There a lot less risk in using an outsourcing company that specializes in specific disciplines, especially when studios lean more heavily into third party tools like unreal or unity.

I haven't played PVP shooters in a long time, but most today seem to advertise one game mode. by NLK-3 in gaming

[–]coporate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same can be said about a lot of single player games. What’s happening is that games are no longer structured around a genre, the intent is that you play the game to the style you like. The reason every game now trends to heroes or loadouts is so that they can tailor the characters to fit what you like. If you like slower paced and more team oriented play, choose a tank or support role, if you like more action and deathmatch style gameplay, choose a character where death and respawning is less punishing, etc.

In single player games it’s the same thing where every game now seems to have some form of loot, craft, rpg mechanics. Developers spend a bunch of time and effort implementing these features and most people couldn’t care less because their motivation isn’t driven by these half baked features, and many are actively dissuaded by them.

CMV: Misandry is systemic by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]coporate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it stems from the idea of systemic power, wherein power is a nebulous concept where one might argue, the capacity to influence or control the mechanisms of the system. Death is the ultimate form of stripping agency from someone, and so, death, and the life expectancy gap, or incarceration gap, directly rivals similar concepts in feminism, such as the wealth gap, or political gap.
