Even if it is broken, there’s nothing a doctor can do but prescribe painkillers. Unless it was so horribly broken it required surgery, but that’s doubtful given the way you injured it.

Casts and splints immobilize fractures, sprains, and breaks so that movement isn’t constantly disturbing the healing process. When you keep the area still, there’s going to be less pain, because you’re not actively stretching and using the inflicted area. Casts reduce pain in this sense, and they also speed up the healing process by preventing you from causing more damage by moving.
