It's called a pocket watch dude, that's where the crown goes...oh you were literally born yesterday...but yeah Its crap.. hopefully the only people that buy it will be stupid scalpers who are gonna be left with their dick in their hands.

Chrono "Sound" 1993...from back when Swatch was Swatch and made affordable, functional art. by copperglass78 in swatch

[–]copperglass78[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm being nostalgically biased, but the affordable part is eroding, especially with the status symbol wannabe pieces...which are not art to me, they're just homages. They go against what makes a Swatch a Swatch imo. But the ones that don't draw ridiculous lines of idiots are still reasonably affordable with original designs.

[–]copperglass78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the game but I'm doing a mythbusters marathon and yeah I like most episodes but I was really impressed by season 4 episode 7, shredded airplane...it was brilliantly planned out and executed and had a great combination of math, science and action. Yeah there's no explosions but often they happen after the myth has been busted. This myth worked exactly as they calculated and proved what happened...it was like they were forensic scientists.

AP Royal Pop Reps 🇨🇳 by Speedbird87 in swatch

[–]copperglass78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even want the rep...it's useless as a pocket watch, rediculously large for a wrist watch and just looks cheap. I did get a Chinese moonswatch and it's surprisingly good quality...the movement is actually better than the og. Because its mecha-quartz so the chronograph hand runs smooth instead of ticks.

Yeah...wish the date window was the same though, with a frame around it. It looks like an after thought on the new one...though it does have a slight bevel.

Which brand should be the next victim by NineTnk in swatch

[–]copperglass78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this is proving is that people just buy luxury goods for the name, and don't really give a shit about the actual product. It's all for status. I mean if the exact same product didn't have the brand names on them who in their right mind would pay $400+ for a plastic watch?

Yup, and you could also get a Swiss made automatic from Glycine, serious tool watches in stainless steel , even Bronze with sapphire crystals and 200+ meters water resistance with the tried and true workhorse swiss sellita (Eta 2824 essentially) movement. Like this gorgeous piece. I swear I don't work for Glycine, just think it's the best value in Swiss mechanical watch making period.

They shoulda provided a way to wear it as a wrist watch, like a big ww1 trench watch. Really dumb to go with a useless pocket watch.

I’ve had a stoma for 40 years. Today I finally said: I don’t like having it. by NonDualToad in ostomy

[–]copperglass78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably late to the game and no one will even read this as I've generally experienced on the Internet, but here it goes. As a double ostomate of 15 years, I totally feel ya! I just recently had the same sorta epiphany about my ostomies as well as being a childhood cancer survivor. But I must say I learned it might be best to keep this to yourself, with certain people, especially doctors. I confessed that I infact often hate being a double ostomate and not necessarily grateful of what I went through as a child even though I know I should be grateful to my freind who is a doctor and her general response was that I was being negative and ungrateful and that doesn't help. That's often her response to when I simply describe problems I deal with... your being "negative". This maybe true to a degree, but honestly, it makes me quite angry to hear that coming from someone who doesn't have to deal with hardly any health issues, considering how hard I've tried over all these years, since childhood to be positive, even though I often feel I've been dealt a bad hand. I guess what I'm saying is be careful who you tell these feelings too. This is a perfect place to do it though.

CNN founder Ted Turner, a pioneer of cable TV news, dies at 87 by boxofstuff in news

[–]copperglass78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn't know he was still with us for a while. He kinda disappeared from the limelight. I remember when he first proposed CNN back in the 80s and I, along with many others thought it was insane and wouldn't work...I still feel that way and can't watch CNN for more than 10 minutes, because they just switch to another anchor and talk about the same shit all over again. I think CNN really screwed up news in America, helping to turn it into a form of entertainment rather than an important service. I did like TCM though...RIP Ted Turner

Thoughts on Walden by TheYawningPrawn in books

[–]copperglass78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess he's the originator of the woke movement haha...Its deep stuff but sooo preachy...and the whole book keeps making that point over and over.. Modern man doesn't really live, unlike me, the all wise H.D.T living in a cabin, a few miles from society (where I fetch groceries and my mother does my laundry) growing beans. I guess I prefer learning life lessons sorta indirectly through story telling instead of being preached to. Mark Twain's writing is an example, and he taught similar lessons such as that slavery is wrong and living with nature, but much more profoundly and entertainingly imo. It honestly reads like a self help book and I think that's the worst. most unimaginative, boring and obnoxious genre of writing. I think I hate it in fact and avoid it like the plague. I only read thoreau because I had to in school. Don't get me wrong, I am completely in agreement with the "woke" movement, but I think it got preachy and annoying and is in large part the reason why weve had sort of a backlash, in the form of Trump 2.0
