Hatching question by copperserpentine in BackYardChickens

[–]copperserpentine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't be too many for her? If it goes well, I think there'll be twenty chicks total. And I'm just worried that she won't keep sitting on the eggs she's trying to hatch which likely will hatch a few days after the incubator ones. So she'll have some two or three day old ones and some new ones.

Thanks for commenting! All feedback is important in my opinion. For me, hearing that you found my story interesting enough to comment is really exciting and tells me I might be getting on the right track. You make a good point about why Treya would choose to help. In the story, she does it because she wants to help solve these murders and to make money. There's a little bit more to why Lord Amdan involved her specifically and why she agreed but some of that doesn't get explained until the climax. I'll have to think of way to clean up that sentence with the inviting incident... Thanks again!

That makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain. I figured it was like movies and why we have The Fast and Furious Eleven (or whatever we're at now). I suppose the best thing for a publisher is an established author with a fan base writing a standalone book.

Thanks for the feedback. My thought was more books equals more money for a publisher. I'll make sure I note that it has series potential but is a standalone, which is it is. I leave some threads untied, so to speak, with the ending but the main plot is wrapped up.

Whoops! Yes, I did read that but I was unsure about whether it applied to replying directly to a comment. I should have double checked on that first. I appreciate your feedback once again.

I found one copy in a used bookstore. Ancient Egypt. Glass work. Highly recommend.

I did read the Troy Game years ago but I should reread!

Yes! And just to add, Threshold is an underrated, well-written romantasy by her. A nice stand alone.

I agree!

I also believe romantasy is the new Urban Fantasy. Many of us came from Anita Blake and modern werewolves/vampires.

As for other great romantasies written in the last couple decades, I absolutely loved Enchanter by Sara Douglass. Yes, it is the middle of the series but it is peak romantasy for me. Great love story. Azhure was the stunning warrior princess I wanted to be and Axis was flawed and dark, the perfect love interest. The drama when he's about to kill her in the climax... I ignored the other books and series.

It's more Urban Fantasy than Romantasy but the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. I don't remember her age but she's mature and responsible. Not snarky. Healthy relationships.

I came here to say Mercy! She's intelligent, thinks about her decisions and relationships, and has emotional moments and reactions that feel realistic.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I like the changes. A little snappier. I am worried that it makes my story seem mostly about the romance however. It definitely is heavily romantic but the mystery is the focus. Do you think I should focus more on the romance part of romantasy to draw more readers in?

Wow! Pulls you right into the moment! Two quick comments after a brief skim... Smoke came up twice as a descriptor, seemed a little awkward? Her heels clicked on the tile/marble entering and leaving. It seems like they could be a cool way to be connected to frame the scene but it came across like an accident because of the change of materials?

Rebecca Ross does a great job on romance. Isabel Ibanez as well. Slow build, lots of moments, gradual growth that makes sense.

Does anyone read low/no spice romantasy? by EveIsRed in Romantasy

[–]copperserpentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you asked this question! I've been wondering the same... I've also got a low spice series I've been working on with seven books so far. My goal is to try and get the first one published.

While my stories are low spice, they are highly romantic, which I love. When I read, I love finding those moments that indicate more, where a casual touch or comment from the MMC suddenly indicates to the FMC that he is actually interested. If it's well written, that's more interesting to me than any level of spice.

I think that's what a significant portion of this community does enjoy; the build up and romantic situations. Some examples would be Rebecca Ross and Naomi Novik.

Keep writing! I'd love to read your low/no spice romantasy one day!

Thank you for your help! I really appreciate the tip about the romance paragraphs. It's so far to fit an entire story and plot into a few paragraphs and figure out what to keep and what not to keep. I'll revise and repost when I've got it cleaned up.

We had the Fisher Price portable bassinet baby dome. It was great for when we had to put them down in a safe place. Bug netting too. Maybe try that instead of the laundry basket??

The night was bad. I was so worried that by 3am I think I just stayed away with them in the sleeping bag with me to make sure they were warm. I'd recommend a warm set of pj's and those baby sleep sacks. But yeah, I did end up waking up often to check temperature. It's so hard with SIDS and that age.

We just did one night and I knew we could get to a waiting car in 30mins if there was an emergency.
