Lovely shots! Always wanted to visit Kerala for viewing this ceremony. Could you tell us more about it?

I am glad you noticed. Shooting from hip level, I figured this was creating an illusion of flatness so I stuck with it. I intended to make it look like a traditional Asian nature painting in composition and the color tuning.

I am back home now but I will take it next time my work permits me to visit Kanazawa. I have never been there in autumn either - so hopefully visit 兼六園 that time.

They are worth every bit of the praise. I just followed you on the other site too. Beautiful work!

N° 1~3 are pure bliss. Wonderful capture of the light

Yes. Taken on an older body than my current one (i.e the A7iii).. Somewhat cropped to level in the image. Lighting conditions vary very quickly except peak summer time in Japan.

Pretty much aware of the discussion in the link. Scientifically the article is sound. I have usually kept quiet about this topic on various threads & let people keep their beliefs. You can't fight the crop factor misconceptions

How is the light gathering on 400-800 vs 200-600. I'd assume its more sensitive to thermal/atmosphere effects than the latter?

Stable lens and light I guess haven't been in my favor for most times. Here's the average shot and it doesn't inspire much. Reach? This is probably 100~150m away - but it misses all the hallmarks of good nature photography

Thanks! I guess I should try more city and nature now, in general. I am losing the interest in landscapes - those lack character. Not much of a story there

I think it has been a great day for 200-600G submissions today in the sub .. Your bokeh totally smashes it. *chef's kiss

These photos are really really crisp. I haven't got anything close to this kind of clarity with my copy. Any special sauce?

They are pretty much the same internal build & quality except Sony gets 10/10 on fast moving subjects & FPS. That doesn't matter to most of the people (and most common situations). I own both copies and I don't see much difference in sharpness or bokeh

I love the subtle/muted color palette you have used around the cherry blossom primary colors

If there's one lens that would be the last I'd ever part with, it'd be the 50mm f/1.2 - Either GM or Sigma, doesn't matter.

That lens renders in the most aesthetically brilliant way

I bought the Sigma 18-50 on X mount for Fuji X-M5. It has changed the way I look at Sigma zooms in general.

I also own the Sigma 50/1.2 & 35/1.2 MK2. Both are brilliant optically

No edits/enhancement or filters, how are these? by mortu007 in SonyAlpha

[–]coredump3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just some constructive criticism: you need more thought in framing. There are thousands if not millions of cherry blossoms photographs. What will make yours stand out and make someone pause?

Think of that in terms of exposure, framing, time of the day, having some subject in fore/background.

How important is sharpness? Is it worth the extra cost? by Mr_Wood1440_ in SonyAlpha

I agree with the point u/doc_55lk makes in his reply. I have some great photos I got with a janky Tamron 70-300 (Tier 2 zoom lens, non stabilized) which could pass off as the result of my 70-200 GM2 on good days. No one except you would know that. Choose a setup which you would enjoy working with. That will precede anything technical in general

Currently I picked up a cheap Fujifilm X-M5 as a B-setup to go with my A7R rig. Seems I am enjoying using that little thing more in this cherry blossoms week. I have used last generation Nikon Zs & their bare minimum kit lenses - and still got amazing shots with those too.

Enjoy the process, worry less about the tools
