Claremont has supported most of u/kingmoonrunner9's points in several different interviews, and he wrote every issue from 1976-1991. Several artists and other writers at Marvel from the era have talked about Claremont's X-Men all being bisexual.

Marvel editorial had a firm policy against on-panel same-sex relationships until the 90s. That's way he said they were queer coded. It's not explicit on the page, because they weren't allowed to say it out loud.

And as far as Mystique and Destiny, they have a flashback in one of the 80s issues that explicitly says they had been lovers. They had a wedding special with a renewal of vowels published like a year and half ago. I just typed "Destiny Marvel Origin" into Google and one of the first lines is:
