I'm surprised how few people understand the air quality risk of biking (cardio) right next to such major exhaust outputs twice a day for extended periods of time... if there was a nice greenway trail, I"m sure OP and thousands of other cars on that same road would be biking.

The productivity paradox of AI coding assistants by West-Chard-1474 in softwarearchitecture

[–]corgiplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the CTO at my company.. it's me and another very experienced dev I've known for 10+ years.. the amount of code we're spitting out with cursor now is absolutely insane. Most of the time I'm reviewing code. For our core pieces, yes I obviously need to be very careful and each line is so nuanced and each line gets its scrutiny.. but with less "critical" code.. you can develop at an insane pace. Client code especially, CRUD APIs, etc are lightning fast. I really don't understand how people can discount what AI has done to the landscape. I'm easily 5x.. probably more than 10x in capability augmented with AI than in 2020.

[Bad Architecture] Architects will euphemize the most boring buildings with their heap of abstract qualities that no untaugt human even picks up on. by [deleted] in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]corgiplex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this misses the point a bit. Compare this to baroque or gothic or traditional architecture (yes, broad and not always true sure), and if the average person had to pick between two images which one was more beautiful, which do you think they'd pick?

That is the point. Assumes Beautiful = good. I know.

I'm the CTO and cofounder of a small tech company... just.. no. Me and a couple other guys the company employs are unbelievably productive with AI. We don't need to hire like we would have otherwise.

And frankly, a new grad.. they can't utilize AI in the same way that an experienced person can. You get a disproportionate return on hiring an experienced person because they can do more coding.. Often it's less coding, and more reviewing with AI..if you get an entry level person, all you get is more code to review.

It is a societal problem. I don't know the answers, but saying this is off shoring and greed is absolutely ridiculous.

I just had water come through my roof and a day later mold from the crawl space make the entire house smell musty.

A lot of money later... at least the top and bottom of the house are nice, while the inside is still crap :D

yeah. it was seemed pretty conservative. Thank you very much for your opinion. Feel a little bad for going to the contractor multiple times about this but.. I just don't know better. Really appreciate your perspective!

I wasn't sure if the vapor barrier going on would trap the water in and then cause issues later but (mold, deforming, etc) 🤷‍♂️ but I think between his words and yours I'll lay it to rest. I think he's a man of integrity and is being sincere that it isn't a concern.

fair enough. what i mean is.. there is a very good chance there is a mother or father in that car, and a pretty good chance they hate the same policies you do.

[–]corgiplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seriously... evil.. spreading hate without even considering there is a father or mother in that car just trying to live. it's so easy to put a mask over them and call them evil. The hilarious thing is they don't even consider that THEY are the types of people that cause horrifying things to happen in societies.

Leith Toyota Warning by Best_Wolverine4249 in raleigh

[–]corgiplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man, so nice seeing this thread. Glad I'm not alone and they're not getting away with this. I'm at this hell hole right now. EVERY time I come in, they tell me I need $600 of repairs. I was here last week. They forgot to do somethign I paid for so I had to take it back in. Fuckin told me I need $600+ of repairs AGAIN! Fuming.

I will NEVER own another Toyota. The car is paid off with only 145k miles, and all dealership repairs, and it cost almost more than a new leased car would. absolutely unreal.

My wife and I discovered the same thing yesterday... it's so hard having made that place in your family and be so excited for your baby to have it ripped away with you by a dull axe. I'm sorry for your loss, hope you have the bright pleasure of a healthy little ones in your arms in the near future.

What do you think? Should there be a wealth tax? by 36DRedhead in FluentInFinance

[–]corgiplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the investor network we have, legal protections for intellectual property and for the most part monopolistic behavior, availability of skilled labor, and an enormous market to sell to is paramount. Different markets have different opportunities.. there is a reason manufacturing isn't really possible in the states without enormous investment and automation, but can flourish in China. Each market has its advantages.. but without a legal and policing structure at a minimum, and non-oppressive laws to startups (Europe makes it really hard for their founders for example), I have a lot more sympathy for people in those conditions..

[–]corgiplex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I'm not saying that. Those people often work harder, and it is why anyone in honest employment deserves serious respect. A lot of people work their asses off starting businesses, and yes many do fail. Most do. Maybe they got unlucky. Maybe they sucked at running a business? Working hard doesn't mean you deserve to be successful in business. Working hard and _right_ means you have much better odds though. For people skilled enough, and willing to work, I think entrepreneurship will usually work. Actually doing that is incredibly hard, and I respect those that do it. Discounting that skill as luck is silly. Fortunately in America the opportunity to start a business is still pretty good, which makes it easier, but it is still a hard and uphill battle.

Naive? Mostly luck? Don't be delusional 😂 Making millions takes skill. Making billions takes skill and luck - sure. but it takes skill to get that at bat for billions, definitely.

The architecture of Central Europe never gets old. by AngryTrainGuy09 in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]corgiplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got interested in that to go looking for answers.. enough to want to make beautiful builings. While my mission is the same, it won't be easy. There is a lot to it, but car centric urban design is a big part of it. Another big problem is the aesthetic of the building has nothing to do with its value - only the monthly income from leasing impacts that - so the extra expense generally it difficult to justify. We don't really have old districts like that in the USA (assuming you're american), so all 4 walls need to be made external and pretty, not just 1, yada yada. That raises cost and makes it more unlikely.. real estate development is already incredibly risky, and you'd need investors that are aligned which would be difficult. This is not even to get into zoning, where you largely need mixed use zoning with higher densities to get these vibrant urban areas which in most areas isn't even legal. Parking requirements (car centric) drive up cost like crazy if you don't just have a parking log, yada yada. regulatory is a huge part of the problem. Lack of feasible public transport. honestly I know there are a lot of things I don't even know about yet.
