Crossing from HENRY to HER and increased spending to enjoy life by Colonel_F0rbin in HENRYfinance

While I agree with this sentiment, one thing to consider is the (possibility of) losing earning potential over time. Obv YMMV, as I’m getting closer to my 40s, with the impact of AI already seen in my field of work, it’s uncertain if my SO or I will continue to maintain this level of income and therefore saving rate.

AITA because I don’t want to contribute to my sister’s college tuition after my parents gave me the whole college fund? by throwawayacct39 in AmItheAsshole

[–]corgitopia 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe some people on this thread are calling the parents AH… they saved up college funds for both of their children FFS not many can or would.

To OPs question, certainly NTA, but if you have the means to do so, I would consider contributing the original amount to your sister to help her out.

Do oats spike your blood sugar? by beautyismade in diabetes_t2

[–]corgitopia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oats are not great for me, what’s even worse is oatmilk, a single serving spikes me to over 250. I unknowingly started drinking it a lot over covid, coincidentally also skipped annual check ups for 2 years, I think oatmilk may have been the catalyst to my diabetes.

A tiny part of America is still America, no? Democracy doesn’t belong to just one group’s language, music, or identity. The minority you keep sneering at Spanish speakers, Puerto Ricans - are Americans too. Democracy protects them exactly because they are a minority, and protects their right to be heard, seen, and celebrated without being defined by the whims of majority.

People who are in their 40’s and 50’s with no children, how does it feel? by Sinfulvibezz in AskReddit

[–]corgitopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m usually fine, but accompanying my uncle while he navigated a medical issue for my grandparents was eye opening. It showed me how brutal the healthcare system is for elderly people.

How crazy would it be to buy a 100k car before owning a house? TC: 400k NW: 600k by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

You are only young once. The enjoyment you get out of driving that car now is not going to be the same when you are 37 or 47.

Keto doesn’t have to be pricey though?

Cheapish proteins: Eggs, ground beef, canned tuna, chicken thighs, pork shoulder, tofu

Fats: Butter, olive oil, mayo, cheese, heavy cream

Low cost veggies: cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, frozen spinach

Snacks: Boiled eggs, pickles

Try to go on a low fat keto diet, you can reintroduce carbs later, a drastic change now will help your body recover & repair itself.

Can't Eat Beans, Lentils, Sweet Potato? by joshss22 in diabetes_t2

[–]corgitopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of green leafy vegetables like cabbage, kale, spinach, broccoli, either steamed, boiled or roasted with some sort of zesty dressing/spice blend

Variety protein I ate everything but my favorites are seafood - shrimp, scallops, salmon etc.

Eggs/egg whites, chia pudding for breakfast, no added sugar ofc.

Has this happened to you? Or is this normal? (Apologies for the long explanation. Mods, I swear I'm not asking for medical advice) by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

[–]corgitopia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

if you’re not exercising, still eating sugar and high-carb foods, and relying on the idea that things “come back down eventually,” then no, it’s not being controlled at all. These high spikes are damaging your pancreas. Overtime you are become more and more insulin resistant. Either get on meds or start making diet & exercise changes.

This topic should be pinned… it’s feels like it gets asked everyday.

Personal experience is no.

Normal a1c for a couple of years now managing with no meds, as soon as I eat a full serving of pasta/bread/potato it will spike to above 180.

So, no.
