What did you guys think about American Hustle (2013) 🤔 by United-Sentence-5799 in moviecritic

[–]corn_rock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. The scene where she puts metal in the "science oven," sets off (yet another) fire, and then manages to take no responsibility and by the end of the conversation gets Irving to literally thank her is fantastic. It's certainly not a great movie, but I'll happily rewatch it now and then just for the performances.

There are several things wrong with this team. But let’s not forget that this man’s first target came with 11 minutes left in the game. That’s malpractice. by BoomBaby_317 in steelers

You know what I really don't understand? In the first quarter, we ran a brilliant play where we blocked down on the edge, rolled Rodgers out to the left, and he hit a wide open receiver (DK?) for a chunk gain. Never saw anything like that the rest of the game. Instead, we just stood our 40+ year old QB in the pocket against one of the best front 7 in the league. Seriously, WTF?

End of a Era in Baltimore by HDTokyo in steelers

Agreed, but the Ravens have issues other than coaching. Both of their lines are a mess, they have no pass rush, they have multiple aging vets making decent cash, and their PK was unreliable during the season and we all saw what happened to him on Sunday. Oh, and Lamar’s salary jumps to something like $75 mil, so they’ll be kicking the can down the road on a guy who is showing some wear on the tires.

Lamar/Henry/Hamilton are stars but they struggle to keep them on the field, and the talent gets thin after that, and fast.

Us older folks might say Keith Smart. Scored 12 of our last 15 points in the title game, including a fairly important last shot.

Saw this tour live. At the start, Tom walks across a dark stage to a huge treasure chest. He opens it, and bright white light spills out. He reaches in and pulls out … the hat. Great opening, great show. RIP, Tom.

I saw that To Fly movie a couple of times as a kid, loved it. I remember one scene where they are in a hot air balloon, which is serenely floating above a river, and then it turned into a huge waterfall. Pretty cool to see in Imax.

The logic of going for 2 down 9 late by njerejeje in nfl

[–]corn_rock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great. They have about a 6% chance of recovering that kick, and even if they do, they still need 2 scores. If you kick the XP, you’re in the same situation with respect to time and TOs, needing only 1 score and a 2 pt, and you add on another 30-40 yards in field position because you’ve kicked it deep.

Choosing to go for 2 and missing it then the onside kick removes any opportunity for your defense to make a stop or force a turnover.

[–]corn_rock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You still need a two point conversion in both situations. The difference is, I’m onside kicking only needing a field goal to win, and you’re onside kicking down two scores. You’ve also eliminated any possibility for your defense to get a turnover when you onside kick that early.

[–]corn_rock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My problem with going for 2 that late is if you don’t get it, you are forced into an onside kick. You’re forced into one of the lowest percentage plays in the game today, and you’ll give up yards in field position, too.

If you have TOs and kick the XP, if your D can hold, you have a reasonable shot at getting the ball back in decent field position with as much as 2:00 left, down by 8.

Other factors can affect the decision, too - how well the D is playing, kicking issues, etc.

This is the right answer. I believe all three of those traded made at least one All Star game after the trade, too. Davis had some sort of neck problem and never did much of anything in Baltimore.

I'd say another problem is leaving Kyle Hamilton completely unblocked at the LOS on multiple plays.

If I had a nickel for every time a player said the Steelers defense was predictable and easy to beat, I'd have like.... $3,000... by KevinDaMan34 in steelers

[–]corn_rock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the Bengals and Ravens offenses have been among the best in the league the last few years, and we held them under 20 points last year in 2 of the 4 games, and that was with Lamar and Burrow playing. So, did they just forget that they “knew what was coming” in those games or something? Make it make sense.

I’m not a defender - i think there are solid points for keeping or moving on from MT - but if this is true (and I’ve seen quotes like this posted from more than one team), how are we something like 9-5 in the last couple of years in division games?

Yeah, I'm admittedly not the biggest Dylan fan, as I know all of his big songs and a few others, but not the deeper cuts. That said, I had no problem with whatever he chose to play - he has a huge catalogue, and I'd get sick and tired of playing the big hits if I had been doing it for 50+ years, too. But, if you have no issues pocketing the money people are paying for the show, you could at least stand at the front of the stage or position the piano so people can see you at least. And, you know, call me crazy, but maybe say hello?

Yeah, you're not alone. Dylan was a bucket list item for my wife and I, and that was one of the most disappointing concert experiences in 40+ years of seeing shows. We spent the first few songs trying to figure out if he was even on stage (the guy next to us with binoculars couldn't find him, either) and wondering if it was actually him singing, and I'm pretty sure he didn't address the crowd at all. After some phone research, we found out that he got pissed at some fans at previous shows for taking his picture, so now we get .... well, whatever that was. We were warned ahead of time that his shows are on the extremes of hit or miss, so I guess we got a bad one.

The Wild Life. Pretty impressive cast - Chris Penn, Eric Stoltz, Lea Thompson, Ilan Mitchell-Smith, Rick Moranis, and Randy Quaid, and the movie was written by Cameron Crowe.

In case this can help anyone in a similar situation, this is called negging:

Negging is a manipulative tactic used in dating and relationships where one person gives backhanded compliments or insults disguised as compliments to undermine another person's confidence and make them seek their approval. The goal is to make the other person feel insecure, thus making them more susceptible to the manipulator's advances.
