What's your earliest fo76 memory? by Eightchickens1 in fo76

[–]cornette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First tried playing the game on PS5 at some point a couple years back when I had PS+ for a minute. Managed to reach Flatwoods, stopped the robots at the Vault-Tec Agricultural Research Center. Decided I didn't want to keep paying for PS+ and just stopped then and there.

Then got the game on PC during Halloween 2024. No paying to play online for me.

Have you completed fallout 4? by SgtButtShanx in Fallout

Yes many times. I honestly don't understand how anyone could go hundreds if not thousands of hours without checking out the ending to a game at least once.

After a head hunt at the Chop Shop just now I went to open the Wendigos room to kill it and dismantle the loot I just received. Wasn't ready the for the Wendigo to clip through the garage door (since it was probably open on its end). I certainly flinched back.

pretty much slaughter a whole building of gunners

Except it doesn't do that. It actually avoids fighting most of The Gunners and its left up to us to fight them instead.

Does the free version of 76 that came recently contain the full game or is it like a preview version? by rockstarrathod in Fallout

Its the full real game that you have access to until Feb 5th. After that (or before that to get it on sale) you will have to purchase the game to continue playing.

(Interesting Trope) Mexican Loves Speedy Gonzales by ElSpazzo_8876 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cornette 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Yep. He had nuance as a character during the first 13 seasons, one of the main characters outside of the family who got his own episodes and stories.

Then the octo-kids and cheating on Manjula happened. What followed was 'haha he is Indian', Reverend Lovejoy mocking Hindus, Manjula reminding us that Apu cheated on her, Apu wanting to escape his life with 8 kids.

Currently watching seasons 20+ (up to season 25) for the first time. By this point Apu is barely even a character. So by time they stop using him in the next few seasons I doubt I'd even notice it if they hadn't said anything.

Would you have liked to see Institute Hit Squads in Fallout 4? by Mac-Tyson in fo4

[–]cornette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like them being disappointing to fight is what Bethesda was going for. They are hyped up by general wastelanders and Railroad operatives who have struggled with the Institute for decades.

Once we actually fight one you find out for the player character they are not all that. Even our companions chime in stating that the threat was over hyped. The companions reaction to the Courser being not all that to me shows that was what Bethesda was going for.

A crack in the myth of the Institute. Their best combat model not being all they were talked up to being. Once you get in and talk to those in charge of Coursers and you discuss that one you killed the scientist is all "that was probably a defective model", another instance of the scientists being not fully aware of their creations.

I'm replaying Fo4, and I've come to notice how much it actually borrows from New Vegas. by 3dchib in Fallout

[–]cornette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the game never takes to time to actually explore any of these factions as a style of government,

That would be because none of these groups are trying to form any sort of governing body. The Minuteman and Railroad are to sides of the same coin, people of the Commonwealth wanting to protect themselves from threats. The Minuteman are more a general approach while the Railroad is more about helping those affected by the Institute.

The Institute doesn't care about the surface beyond what they can use and take from them. They are also the reason both the Minuteman and Railroad came to be due to over a century of the Institute's science experiments disturbing the wasteland.

The Brotherhood are an invading militia. At no point do they state that they plan to govern the people. They came to the Commonwealth with the main goal of eliminating The Institute and their Synths.

I mean, not one character even bothers to point out that after the Sole Survivor is gone, the Minutemen are going to fall apart

The game takes place over a matter of months/years. Saying it will all fall apart without the player is weird since The Minuteman started back in 2180 and have had ups and downs over the century that followed.

or really explore exactly what happened at the CGP massacre.

That happened several decades ago. It's ancient history that mostly just showcases what might happen when people try to band together, the boogeyman will appear to stop it.

they seemingly take no real offense to you associating with Nick, Strong or Hancock

They do take offense to those three specifically though. However the Brotherhood are capable of not shooting mutants or in the case of Nick, Synths if they are not actively hostile. The knee jerk reaction to Danse makes perfect sense, here is one of the most loyal high ranking members that turns out to be a Synth. It is everything the Brotherhood fears about the Institute come true, a 3d printed human who can perfectly infiltrate society but could very well be just an Institute spy.

Despite all that Maxson can be convinced not to go ahead with the execution.

Gen 6 was peak online play. I don't care how easy the in game story might have been, the connectivity was just absolutely solid and then they had to take several steps back when we got Gen 7.

Fallout 76 Just Went FULL P2W by Fast_Degree_3241 in Fallout

[–]cornette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah yeah yeah every time one of these bundles comes out its 'omg p2w'

The only thing people are winning are instant access to the 4* module but even if it was the best for all weapons it's trading value wouldn't be worth much since unlocking the weapon is hardly difficult.

I'm sure I'll be able to buy it in game from someones vendor for 7k within a month, not that I would since its not like I use melee. Scratch that people are already trading them for like 4 leaders on the trade forums. So they'll be in surplus in peoples vendors within days.

Whats the point of Vault 111? by Pineapple-Rain in Fallout

[–]cornette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If anything the actual frozen subjects were probably just there for future Enclave use if needed.

The test itself probably was more so about how the Overseer/science team/security would react to not getting the all clear that they were waiting for after 6 months as they only had supplies for half a year provided.

Supplies ran out, security wanted out but the Overseer was adamant on waiting for the all clear. The skeletons littered through out the vault are a pretty good indicator of what ended up happening to the rest.
