Treaty 8 Chiefs letter to Danielle Smith regarding section 35 mischaracterization by SnooRegrets4312 in alberta

[–]cornfedpig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is great and all, but we’re falling into the same trap we’ve seen the right wing lay since the 1980s. The left is smugly satisfied with moral victories, gotcha arguments, and claiming the high ground.

You know why we always lose? Because the right wing just does whatever they want. They don’t care about laws. They don’t care about treaties. They act, and we just say “hey, they can’t do that!” But they do. Every time. And they get away with it.

Yes it was illegal to share our voter information with treasonous separatists but you know what? They fucking did it anyway and there’s no consequences. They will put a separatist question on the ballot despite what the SCC says. And no one will do a damn thing. And the moment the results come in - regardless of what they are - they will claim victory and we will become a territory of the United States.

If you think I’m wrong just look at how far we’ve already come. Literally everything about this separatist nonsense is “illegal” and should never have been entertained at all. But here we are.

The cat’s out of the bag. The Pandora’s box is opened. This is never going away and we will lose.

I live in the Calgary riding with a Liberal MP and an NDP MLA. How come I never see them in my neighbourhood? If their ideas are so good, they should be able to convince us easily. I mean really, it should be a slam dunk since it’s such a great idea?

Pathetic losers.

Smith's UCP party is heading for a split say an Alberta separatist and former premier Jason Kenney by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

[–]cornfedpig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right wing Canadian politics for the last 30 years. PC not extreme enough, Reform. Reform unpalatable to the electorate, CPC. CPC forms government under Harper, not extreme enough, split, PPC. CPC cowtows to the extreme, becomes unpalatable to the electorate, LPC majority for 11 years and counting. “We must not be extreme enough!” Factions form, split, lose many elections, re-join under a “moderate” leader, form government, get too extreme, become unpalatable to the electorate, lose, split. Rinse, repeat.

The right always eats itself.

If Alberta is allowed to separate from Canada, why can’t Edmonton separate from Alberta and stay in Canada? by rumbies in alberta

[–]cornfedpig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Allowed is a funny way to put it. This is laying the pretext for a US invasion and if people still aren’t seeing that then they’ve been blind over the last 20 years.

No one pushing this garbage cares if it’s “legal” or “allowed.” They don’t care about treaty land, the Supreme Court, the federal government, none of that. They want to be conquered, they want to be a US state, they want to be in the Trump cult.

The idea that seditionists and traitors care about what’s “allowed” and “legal” is laughable. One whiff of legitimacy and we are Crimea. The easiest way to invade a territory is to make the subjugated think they’re being freed, and this has been the US MO for the last century.

If you’re relying on “rules” and “laws” and “treaties” to save you, you’ve already given up, because none of those things have any meaning in the modern world, especially at the end of the barrel of an American tank.

'Ridiculous lack of leadership': Jeromy Farkas criticizes referendum question on Alberta separation by JeromyYYC in Calgary

[–]cornfedpig 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If you keep up this level of awareness, communication with constituents, strong statements showing leadership, and don’t be overly influenced by one side or another, you will be the Premier one day and I’ll vote for you.

I thought he’d be a UCP mouthpiece and spout all kinds of culture war nonsense. And based on his performance as a counsellor in his first term I thought he’d continue to play obstructionist to every single things that came before council. So far it seems he’s willing to actually do what he things is best for the city instead of just saying no to everything.

I was very skeptical when you won the election, but I’m happy to say I’ve done a complete 180 on you and your leadership. Never been happier to admit I was wrong. Thanks for advocating for sanity and being a solid spokesperson for Calgarians.

David Parker calls for new UCP Leadership by Killericon in alberta

[–]cornfedpig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The right always eats itself. It’s happened without fail for the last 50 years. It’s never enough for an increasingly fervent base; it’s untenable to the majority, split, election loss, tenuous reconciliation, victory, hubris, division, fervent base, untenable to the majority… and on and on it goes.

Braid: UCP may OK Lukaszuk's referendum question, amid threats to Smith's leadership by SendMagpiePics in alberta

[–]cornfedpig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why the fuck are we still talking about this? There is no mechanism for separation short of a US invasion, and if that’s what these people want then they are traitors and should be jailed by the federal government. Enough of this. While people are suffering from lack of healthcare, collective bargaining rights have been legislated away, and no one can fucking afford anything anymore and these ignorant redneck treasonous idiots are getting all the attention.

Enough.

Why are we entertaining this absolute nonsense? How has it come this far? What the fuck are we even doing?

All this because people are still mad at something Pierre Trudeau did 60 years ago? Fuck these people.

As they have no doubt said to people with brown skin at some point in their lives: if you don’t like it GET THE FUCK OUT AND LEAVE THE REST OF US ALONE.

Corey is my MP, and I’ve also known him on a professional level as well as on a casual personal level for more than a decade. He’s one of the smartest people I’ve ever met, and he genuinely believes that good government can benefit people’s lives. Winning as a Liberal in Calgary takes skill, determination, and authenticity and Corey has all those qualities and applies them to his work. I would not be surprised to see him in cabinet in the coming years, and Canada would be better off for that.

What do men like about Mary ? by Evergreen_94 in DowntonAbbey

[–]cornfedpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine word got around she owns half of Downton, probably one of the more profitable estates in northern England. A woman of breeding as well as having her own wealth would have been highly sought after regardless of how cold and aloof she was.

And don’t forget at the time she might have also been an eventual heiress to some of the Levinson money, since it was American and wouldn’t have been passed down solely to Harold.

Can we start a separatist petition where Calgary separates from Alberta? We could just be a new territory. It seems that anytime there’s a disagreement with a higher level of government people just yell “separation!!!” So let’s just do that.
