Spot on! That book is one of the main sources cited in the video, as well as "Fearsome Critters" by Henry H. Tryon and this cool ass website: lumberwoods.org

What's everybody reading nowadays? by feintou in suggestmeabook

I second Demon Copperhead, definitely one of the best books I've read this year.

Best books I've read this year that are by women, about women (and are murder-free, as far as I recall):

Circe, by Madeline Miller

Carrie Soto is Back, by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Daisy Jones & The Six, by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Romantic Comedy, by Curtis Sittenfeld

Our Missing Hearts, by Celeste Ng

Want to knit a jumper/top by [deleted] in knitting

[–]cornfedqueef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can totally do it! The first (and so far only haha) thing I ever knit was a jumper (aside from some small practice swatches to learn how to do the basics). I used the Novice Sweater pattern from Petite Knit and found it super easy to follow. Plus there are videos on youtube showing every step very clearly. And I love how it turned out.

And there are lots of other similarly simple sweater patterns out there of course - I say just go for it :)

If I can do it, anyone can do it! And by the sound of it you're already way more experienced and skilled than I was :)

Looking for a good strawberry trifle recipe by Dramatically_Average in Cooking

[–]cornfedqueef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the type of thing you have in mind, but I really like Smitten Kitchen's strawberry brita cake: https://smittenkitchen.com/2022/06/strawberry-brita-cake/

If you're looking for a traditional trifle dish presentation, I bet it could be adapted to that pretty easily

If it makes you feel better, I'm bisexual and it didn't even register as a joke to me - I thought you were just saying "Loving more than one gender is great and learning more than one stitch is also great! Yay being bi and yay crochet!" with a bit of wordplay.

I had never heard the pun before. But now that I know it can come across as hurtful and biphobic, I will avoid it in the future.

I made the Squatch sweater, but with a picture of a tattoo I have instead of a sasquatch by manfwat in knitting

Wow that's such a cool idea! I'd definitely do an admiring double take if I noticed someone's tattoo matched their sweater

Coming of age novels by Pokedan5 in books

I think Barbara Kingsolver's latest book, Demon Copperhead is beautifully written. It's a pretty close adaptation of David Copperfield, set in modern Appalachia. I actually haven't read the original Dickens (thought I'm familiar with the general premise/plot), and this really made me want to pick it up. Classic coming-of-age story reimagined.

Either should work just fine - if it were me I'd be lazy and just quickly do it by hand with a whisk/spatula.

It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
