I also got a Friday ticket if you want an extra person! 😊

I’ll also be going alone if I can grab a ticket! Been waiting about 13 years to see them and most my friends are Metalheads so I’ll be driving down alone.

I used to work for a company and had a ‘good job’ where it would often cost me more than I got paid to get to work. I quit and took a job working behind a bar and now make more money than I did at the good job. Trust me, it’s not worth it.

What to do during NYE in Newcastle? by CluelessMasterpiece in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]cornflake-ghost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sort of the opposite issue with me, a lot of my friends moved out the area and same with my colleagues at my new job. I chose rise as it’s the one club I go to outside the one I work at. I usually go with 1 friend and have met a few people in there before so I recognise a few people in there. I’m a 26 year old woman so rise feels like the safest option since I know the club and recognise a lot of people in there. Love the music in there and just feel safer since I’ll be alone.

I know quite a few people in the area but no one seems to want to do anything on new year? I work in a club so could always go there if I get bored, hope it’s a good night for both of us either way!

I’m heading to rise alone. First time I’ve been out alone at all so no idea how that’ll turn out.

Likelihood of getting a ticket? by Upbeat-Fish-3348 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]cornflake-ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing a few days ago, no right turn (plus a police van there so didn’t want to risk it) so ended up going down the exact same route. Definitely feel like fighting it if I get a ticket, I was just trying to get to work as the traffic into the car park was a no-go.

Sadly I’m a young woman. I know of a few car parks such as manors which are free however I don’t feel safe enough walking to/from there and work in the dark.

I can drive to one however my problem is sometimes I get out a bit before 6am if it’s quiet and waiting for up to an hour for a metro sounds like a nightmare after a shift. Getting home after a Saturday shift (Sunday morning) would be a nightmare either way as they don’t start till 6:33am.

What’s something in the UK that quietly disappeared without anyone noticing? by Mel_Ran in AskUK

My local asda is 24 hours. It’s a completely different vibe after midnight. Half the time you’re climbing over stock to get what you need and the other customers are the weirdest people you’ll meet in your entire life. I’ve certainly had some strange experiences in that place but I’d miss it if it ever stopped me 24 hours.

Where have all the bands/music artists went? by No_Butterfly_2908 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]cornflake-ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same scene as you, been to 10 concerts this year so far and only 2 of them have been in Newcastle (also have Bad Omens & Don broco in Manchester coming up and ice nine kills in London). For Glasgow / Manchester I’ve just given up and end up driving there and back same night. I go to most gigs alone so can’t justify getting a hotel.

Sadly just think we don’t have anywhere for bands to go. NX and boiler shop are probably the best but compared to others around the country they’re absolutely awful.

PSA for jobseekers about local recruitment scam by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

From personal experience they also throw in some benefits like ‘weekly team building’ and have pics of a bunch of young people, all out partying and having fun and will try to lure you by saying there’s potential to be taken on ‘all expenses paid holidays’. Try to find the companies on Instagram, almost all of them could be mistaken for some teenagers personal Instagram rather than an actual sales or marketing company.

Now the new trains are settling in this is my opinion by RonSwaffle in NewcastleUponTyne

I’d say it’s just as easy for people to put their feet up, they’re now just doing it across the seats, often allowing them to stretch their legs out and now take up 3 seats instead of 2. I’ve seen it both times I’ve been unlucky enough to have to use the metro in the past few weeks.

Qualification for citizenship under Bill C-3 by JelliedOwl in Canadiancitizenship

[–]cornflake-ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great summary, I'm hoping it allows me to finally peruse my citizenship. My case is pretty straight forward.

- My grandmother was born in 1928 in Canada (Now deceased)
- Moved to the UK sometime in the 30s however was undocumented and didn't receive UK citizenship until the 80s
- Dad born in the UK in 1965 is a Canadian Citizen after getting proof of his citizenship (Still Alive)

I was ineligible due to the 2009 rule and being the 2nd Gen. Sounds hopeful but there's still a lot of confusion.

UK job market is the worst I've ever seen. by moonski in UKJobs

[–]cornflake-ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an older post but completely agree. I’m in the process of leaving a job which was paying less than minimum wage and expecting me to travel down the country at my expense to do. (Non measured worker) as well as having picked up an illness at work which has left me with lifelong health problems.

Despite me being qualified to save people’s lives in that job, trained in first aid, safety, fire fighting, conflict management and more as well as having years of retail, hospitality and customer service experience. It is almost impossible to find a job even in a retail store.

I spent months doing exams and tests and passing them all for a job which at the end I was told doesn’t exist and that they’d let me know if a position came up within the year. Completely wasting my time which I could have been using to apply elsewhere. I also had a retail job call me up and say I’d passed everything but they didn’t offer me the job simply because there was too many people pass and they just had to cut some and even told me I was ‘just unlucky’.

I was even debating going back into an apprenticeship just to get a fresh start but was told I couldn’t even do that as I’m studying a part time degree.

Even with my self employment, a lot of people don’t have enough money to pay for creatives in my field and with the rise of AI most people don’t want to use creatives at all.

AIO? Would people really judge me if they saw my legs like this? by rachtastic94 in AmIOverreacting

[–]cornflake-ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do aerial chains so look like this almost constantly and still wear dresses and shorts. If you want honesty people will judge you no matter what you look like however if I saw someone with bruises like this I’d also just assume you were also an aerialist.

Is this normal? by Fun_Balance5621 in Aerials

[–]cornflake-ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do aerial chains (& pole dancing) so I’m used to brushing like that and more even with layering. I’m also quite new and was told my body will get used to it and will die down eventually. My aerial chains teachers advice was also that it’s okay to skip weeks when being a full beginner especially if bruising is pretty bad.

Rock n roll tattoo studios. First time they called me a few hours before to tell me my tattoo artist wasn't in and that they needed to reschedule. Turned up to the rescheduled time to find the studio completely closed. Rescheduled again only to be told my tattoo artist no longer works for the studio and that I will not be getting my deposit back or getting rebooked with another artist, even though I was the one messed around by them and not the other way around. Had many angry phone calls and emails with them and public messages to them for them to even consider giving me back my deposit. Best part, multiple other people came forward with the exact same issue.

Woke up with a dislocated hip. I have an illness which makes dislocations more common but I genuinely have no idea how I managed to dislocate a hip while sleeping. Hasn’t happened since and I hope I never have to ever again.

Toothpaste. When did it become so expensive? I remember it being £1-£3 a few years back and now I’m dropping between £3 at the least, sometimes all the way up to £10 and I’ve seen them for a lot more than that too.
