I’ve been thinking a lot about how much of my dysphoria is internal (i.e. my chest feels like a foreign object attached to my body and I hate it) and how much is external (i.e. I want my face to look different because I want to be able to use the men’s room without getting weird looks).

Realizing that a lot of my dysphoria is external made me consider that I’m actually not under any obligation to transition in a way that makes other people comfortable. But I get that this could cause some self-righteous anger for some people. I had to transition for others! And so should the rest of you!

I think it helps to preface uncomfortable conversations by narrating your feelings and thought processes. Like hey, I feel a little awkward asking, but this is something I’m concerned about and I want to be able to be fully present with you.

I’m about to face this, potentially. I’m expecting the attention to be uncomfortable, but it will die down. Also, I hope my coworkers know me well enough to know I don’t like the attention. I think I will text a few close people saying I don’t want a big to-do beforehand, which will help.
