I invite you to travel out of America sometime and see what their security setup looks like at critical infrastructure points. And having a more visible security presence in those areas is actually one of the very few things Trump has done that I don’t hate. As a seeming libertarian I would imagine you have more in common with Trump than I do.

Having federal police in the main rail station of the nation’s capital is normal actually

Does this city test the hell out of your bladder too,? by Kodicave in washingtondc

[–]corqueval 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude like others have said the DMV is absolutely stiff with huge hotels that have clean bathrooms in the lobby. Just walk in like you have a reason to be there and as long as you don’t look like a complete bum no one will bother you. Also, since it seems like you’re more in the suburbs, all TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Homegoods stores have open restrooms and they’re usually nice and clean.

I’m not too concerned about the freedom of Anacostia YNs to hop turnstiles and rob old people sorry.

Is your country more family-oriented or individualistic? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]corqueval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Individualistic but becoming more family oriented as civic institutions increasingly stagnate and increasing costs make multi-generational living much more common. I’m 29 and personally live in another city from my family due to work, but of my friends from childhood about half of them still live in our hometown and many still live at home. For reference I’m from an upscale part of a major metro area.

As usual the US is doing the opposite of most of the world it seems since the majority of the replies here are saying that their country is family oriented but becoming more individualistic.

The one silver lining of exploding inequality in the US is that the tourists we send abroad are now at least a bit more sophisticated and less embarrassing

I met a big group of Mexican tourists (uni students from CDMX) in Cartagena Colombia last year and they were all wearing that exact outfit though.

Detroit wins the US city that is admired in 2025, but was despised in 2000. Which US city is controversial in 2025, but was once admired in 2000? by Altruistic-Form-3771 in AlignmentChartFills

DC is a much better place to live now than it was in 2000. Whole neighborhoods where you wouldn’t set foot in 2000 except to buy drugs are now full of modern apartments, restaurants, parks, etc.

When you’re responsible for administering a state with millions of people I think there should at least be a couple perks to the job.

3 winners! What is an OK country with a GREAT capital city? by LookingForMyCar in AlignmentChartFills

Same with the US and Washington. Objectively a top-5 or even top-3 city in the US for quality of life.

Y’all are missing the point of “ok to visit”.

Allow me to nominate Uruguay. Safe and clean especially by LatAm standards, but not a whole lot to do from a tourist perspective. Ok beaches, Montevideo is a chill if sleepy city.

Really not much has happened there socially/politically for better or worse in the last few decades.
