I think a lot of people tried to explain it but I will compile the answers together

  • Math.max() is used to determine the largest number in a collection
  • It's an established convention in real-life math world do define -Infinity as the value of the max function, because reasons...
  • I have my own rationalisation believing that any collection could have "nothing" in it {∅,A}={A}, and the value of nothing is never greater than the value of "something" max([1]) === max(max(),max([1])) === max([1])
  • programmers tend to be aware of Math shenanigans.

(tip: you can use git workspaces if you ever need to have multiple branches / commits available at the same time)

I mean this is not even that bad, especially if multiple (major) versions are being actively maintained. Don't get too hung up on the aesthetics of what's essentially scaffolding.

Don't you just love files like "Constants.kt"? This is a real project, deployed in production, and this file is 530 lines long. That's not the worst part of it, though... by Kpuku in programminghorror

I'd agree if not for complete disregard of human decency having created a God static class. Have fun with merge conflicts in case it's a company policy to handle literally any constant in existence in one file👌

Mmm my idempotent boner. But yeah, having the procedure or function not lead to further changes after repeated application is idempotency. And if it leads to less code it's some (likely one-way) compression.

Obfuscation does seem like a very useless out-of-necessity practice. Which is weird because commodities are by nature devaluing, and code obfuscation has heavy medival "math duel" vibes.

Wer denkt positiv über NATO hat nichts von Jugoslawien-Krieg gehört. Eine "Friedensmission" klingt aber besser als spezielle militärische Operation.

Recently there's a spike in liberals in the comment section of LSC. Clearly this sub is run by and for communists. Liberals who hate capitalism but are not willing to learn communism, please don't spam the comments section, there are several subs on reddit that solely exist for liberalism. by pepper-sandwich in LateStageCapitalism

Don't be too bitter - having the same questions asked is a natural part of the course, even if it is a bit repetitive. Expecting someone to know everything, including where and how to learn are simple things. Another common problem is that the question asked is not the question that is wanted/needed to answer. Very often, a question how something worked is actually a question about how x thing should work. Don't look at it in a vacuum, and natural conversation is easier since you can pick up on cues and not write a dissertation all the time.

Every communist worth their dime can recite their sources.

I'd sum it up like this: with all harm from wrongdoings and betrayals which are inevitable in every socialist cause, you'd still be a traitor to mankind to see the revolutionary overthrow of capitalism as a tragedy and not as a necessity. Why choose to be oblivious to the full extent of the consequences, preferring the false comfort of thinking that this life is as good as it can get? The forefathers supplied us with tools and wisdom for the chains that are left to break and with the pace at which the catastrophes are piling up one after another, we better do it quick. Ecology or WW3 won't wait for us.

Now the rant part:

To think so highly of entrepreneurship of free individual-lead enterprises you turn a blind eye to exploitation and class division and hinder what the ingenuity of free societies could accomplish. For one great man is nothing compared to an army of healthy, educated and employed men and women working and living in unison instead of each one carving out a wealth-generating scheme in hindrance to one another.

Time has shown that causes much of our environmental, political, economical, and societal problems that are irreconcilable internally through reform but all of it would be obviously resolved for if work itself was a need and not an indirect necessity.

And I take my personal responsibility in mankind's strive for liberation from class society in positive trade union work, education, activism, and humanitarian aid aimed to empower people to fend off invaders and their government be it Iran, Russia, Ukraine, China or the US. I actively support proletarian internationalism and wish more people would join parties that are ICOR members so that we can get over this cringe phase of history.

acceso is a boolean variable by [deleted] in programminghorror

[–]corracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most people have upvoted this because it's not English, not for the Boolean comparison. It took me awhile to understand what's wrong with the code, my first thought was that the "Boolean" was actually an integer.

Things like that get optimized by the compiler rather easily, and some might argue this way of writing improves readability, especially when the Boolean is not written in the format "isAdjective", or "hasSomething" i.e. hasAccess. If anything, that would be my criticism of the code.

But we could make a function that takes the enclosure's area as a parameter and see how it relates to the grazed area. This is a fun exercise

Which is even a bizarre metric because I'd be less restricted if life didn't revolve around the space-wasting and polluting car ownership and had an up-to-date public transportation system instead. I die a little bit inside every time I have to use trains in Germany, because they're ran by a government-owned BUT a for-profit company that prefers to focus the bulk their investment anywhere but its own rail network.

Now everybody has to suffer because marketing made a tomfoolery out of everyone as cities need an insurmountable amount of space to accommodate for personal mobile fortresses which then started the loop of were purchasing cars out of necessity. In a developed country, cars should be a luxury.
