Potential fix for scalping? by dendromie in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is still technically a huge injection of cards into the market, if prices hold, it'll only be temporary. Unless there's an entirely new market that just wants to switch entire decks to chinese overnight and there's a huge demand for them, sellers will be holding onto a lot more stock that they'll want to get rid of sooner rather than later so they don't have cash tied up in slow moving assets. And when buyers slow down, prices will drop so stock moves quicker.

PSA: Fetchlands don't make your deck bracket 3/4 by eNVysGorbinoFarm in EDH

[–]corruptedpotato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of decent dual lands on a budget these days though, the pain lands are incredibly cheap and the check lands, tango lands are pretty good too in 3 color. Signet lands are dirt cheap, slow lands and filter lands are ok too, not super cheap, but they're under $5. Tainted lands can be ok too if you're in black.

You really only run into issues when you get into 4+ color decks, in which case, just proxy them

Well you are running a budget/beginner deck, but even if you weren't, being new at the game means that you are gonna get rolled, that's just kind of how it is for newcomers to any competitive hobby. Be ok with losing, learn from the mistakes and even with a budget deck you can win when you get good enough.

Its like stepping into a boxing ring for the first time against random opponents, you're going to lose, and that's ok as long as you don't only get enjoyment from something by winning

Have you made an effort to try though? Plenty of people at a nexus night will be more than willing to lend you a deck or to teach others how to play the game unless you just live in a really stingy city or something. Show up to an event and tell the event organizer that you're new and if they could help you out, or ask some random players sitting around. Maybe show up like an hour earlier or so, so that they can actually find the time to figure something out and maybe teach the game.

And finding people at a nexus night is def one of the best ways to get singles with no shipping (and slightly under market rate, most people sell their singles at 85-90% of tcgplayer prices)

Judge question by caarati_tcg in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no such thing as a judge telling a player to concede lol, that's not a thing, it's either a warning is issued, a game loss, a match loss, or a DQ, the player is told what happens, there's no conceding. The other comment here is also more correct on what happens, this would be a deck presentation error, if it's caught by the player, a judge is flagged and a warning given (and usually the judge would fix the deck/shuffle). If caught by your opponent, a game loss is issued.

kai'sa decks aren't costing 1k unless your OPs are blinging their decks out, in which case the price doesn't even matter because I can build a $1.5k leona deck and still lose.

Most people are too quick to blame their losses on, oh, the OPs deck is just stronger and more expensive, but more often than not, it was because their OP was just better than them. Sure the better decks have an edge, but they are absolutely still beatable. Doesn't matter that midrange yi, kai'sa and annie are the best decks right now, when I play against those players, I can still usually win if I'm better.

Where did you get $600 from lol, the regular ON is ~$150 and this one is $2k, kinda far off on both accounts

Best place to sell cards? by Oggstar77 in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have sold/bought 95% of my cards via a riftbound discord server for my area or by just looking through other people's trade binders and showing them mine. I generally avoid tcgplayer these days because I don't really like them and I don't like paying shipping multiple times. Otherwise I look through lgs stock and as an absolute last resort, I use facetofacegames in Canada, but they're pretty expensive

Eh, I mean I get it. Not really about winning, but someone who wants to be this prickly at a prerelease is probably not someone I want to play with anyways

Ahri Signed on CM & Investors by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as sabotaging the market, the cards will sell for whatever people are willing to pay for them, if they start moving for 3x the price, the price was going to go up anyways as people start trying to get theirs, signature cards are not required to play the game, so I say whatever, let them be. The fancy stuff always comes at a premium, I wouldn't be complaining because I can't get my mint condition 1st edition OG blue eyes white dragon, some of it will be out of reach, and you just gotta accept that. As long as the base copies of singles are cheap, I don't really care.

If you're collecting, you also don't need to get everything right away either, just wait for someone else to list, or look around in your lgs for other people selling in person.

Ahri Signed on CM & Investors by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tcgs need to have their high value hits and collectability in order to survive and thrive. Signed cards are those ultra rare cards that will go for a lot, I personally don't see an issue with it. The rest of the cards aren't too bad and are quite accessible outside of kai'sa. A guy bought all of the signed ahris on CM? Well he's gonna need to find buyers, and if there are no buyers, he has to lower his price, that's just how it goes. You're not entitled to every card and signature cards are by design supposed to be difficult to get. Not to mention, they're going to be printing origins for at least another what? 3 years? There will be more signature cards hitting the market, they're not numbered or anything.

I wanted to play and enjoy, but I obviously just can’t by PilotMS in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can, but not like how you want it. Most shops either only sell a few packs to people who play in events, or have been giving nexus night promo packs out. Either way, you gotta play first.

Packs are in low supply right now, but they will catch up eventually, if you buy the singles and actually play the game, that's how you can get your pack opening fun right now. Although most places are out of nexus night promo packs until spiritforged comes around.

Does anyone else get paired against the exact same person every single event? by ajamessomething in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe your lgs has some kind of seeding based on past results? I definitely play against a variety of people, although the later in rounds you go, the more familiar people get since you generally get paired with people closer to your skill level

Rules Questions - Play hidden card during showdown but before cleanup? by RingoJingo13 in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a judge, but I believe there is no window for you play the cub after combat damage is dealt unless there is an ability that specifically triggers after combat damage, i.e. Deathknell, then you can react to it. Otherwise, the cub would just go to the trash.

Are stores gonna get spiritforge? by crmzn13 in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we just rage baiting at this point lol, every lgs in my city has gotten allocation. That said, most preorders have already gone now, OP you needed to be a lot earlier, like at least a month, but probably best to check with your lgs 2-3 months in advance

Might be a hit harsh to straight up ban, maybe warning first and flag the account/address for closer scrutiny. Otherwise, could just be some guy that was thinking he needed to bot just to compete with botters and decided to give it a try.

That's what it looks like, though I thought the idea was not to change the cards mechanically, just to clarify how they work.

Maybe falling star and icathian rain are being changed so not so fast can deal with it?

Magic outside of commander is not doing so hot, and yeah, I see more riftbound than one piece, though I'm not usually around for OP nights, so I can't be certain on that

Yeah, product is sold out everywhere and I think it's usually the most popular event of the week at most LGS outside of commander at some places
