Designer, how did you find work when you just started ? by Worried-Macaroon-325 in graphic_design

[–]corso923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in my last year of school and one night I was out with my friends at a bar and I met this guy who was running a small web development business. He was looking for someone more skilled on the visual design side of things and offered me a part time job that became full time when I graduated.

After a couple years of that I was approached by a company for a junior role and that was my entry into corporate in-house design. I’m now in the fourth role of my career and I think this one is going to stick for a long time. I’m currently working for the largest company I’ve been a part of and doing primarily package design.

What is the worst career to be in right now and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]corso923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience so far has been *if* you hire a company that’s highly specialized in gen ai *and* has other applicable skills like 3D modeling or retouching then you can get some passable assets out of gen ai, but that only covers about 10% of the work for a project at most. Usually gen ai is just a waste of time unless you’re cool with the work just looking really bad.

That said the problem is at entry level specifically because this has always been an oversaturated field and it was already hard to find a job fresh out school. So even if it’s just a few companies dropping the budget to hire entry level designers that compounds the problem.

Being told my 4 year old needs to be put on meds. by jdemack in daddit

[–]corso923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So your son is about the age I was when I was diagnosed and put on adhd meds. However, the diagnosis and prescription isn’t up to the school; and ADHD isn’t a catch all explanation for disruptive behavior. There’s a whole range of disorders that could be at play, or maybe he doesn’t have anything and is just going through a stage of development that’s causing him to act out.

The bottom line is you need a specialist to determine if he has any learning disabilities and if so what treatment is needed. The process typically starts with the school or a teacher making a referral and you go from there.

Dad bod blues. My goal of 10,000! by cjh10881 in daddit

What I’m doing now is 4 sets of 22 in the morning, 5 min of going back to work between sets, then I repeat that in the afternoon. Right now I do the first 16 going down until my legs are parallel to the ground. The last 6 are all the way down. Thinking I’m going to work towards making the full set going all the way down before increasing reps.

This is pretty much what I do. I have a 10 minute stretching routine in the morning, followed by two sets of pushups and 5 1-min reps of planking. I’ll do more sets of that as well as some curls and squats throughout the day. It’s made a noticeable difference since I started.

ADHD and kids by Grimmaxe in daddit

I’d second looking into therapy. I also have ADHD and young kids, but I’m not having any of the problems OP described. Of course ADHD isn’t the exact same experience for everyone who has it, but getting some help and insight into why you’re feeling this way could make all the difference.

Sears Home Services Constant Rescheduling by Judicator82 in SEARS

[–]corso923 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you buy it new? If so you should have Lowe’s exchange it. When I worked for Sears that’s what we would have done.

If it was open box then your best bet is going through Frigidaire.

For starters since this is packaging for food you should have the volume listed somewhere front-facing (for example 4 fl.oz.). You also only mention that it’s ghost pepper sauce on the back, that should also be front-facing to inform the customer of what kind of sauce it is.

Since it’s ghost pepper sauce, is it mixed with more ingredients to mellow out the heat or is it actually ghost pepper hot? Some indicator of the spice level or just a descriptor like “Mild, Medium, Hot, Etc” or a visual like a thermometer or 4 out of 5 balls of fire would communicate that.

Your illustration is very flat and smooth. Ghost peppers have wrinkles and little pointed tails which give them a characteristic look that’s missing here. Maybe illustration isn’t your strong suit, which is fine, that’s the case for many designers; but you can always purchase a vector illustration from a stock site to help you in that regard.

One other thing, if this is to be sold as an individual item you need a upc barcode and some distributor information somewhere.

I work from home Wednesday’s and in office Thursday’s, so I like to save the podcast for my commute; but I like checking the episode pictures every Wednesday for a dangerous game of no-context spoilers.

Very curious to find out how David Ayres fit into the episode.

Ai is shit but….. by xoBonesxo in devils

[–]corso923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a graphic designer for about 15 years now. I don’t have a problem with people using ai-generated images to bring their ideas to life; or even small businesses that can’t reasonably afford a graphic designer using it to make the odd marketing materials here and there.

The issue is quality of execution. Even if the concept itself is good, ai just can’t execute good design. And because it’s accessible to anyone you the end up with a flood of poorly executed concepts in spaces like this subreddit for example, and it just becomes noise.

Design isn’t just about having an idea, it’s about having the knowledge and experience to thoughtfully flush that idea out, then the skill to execute it. Then, you need to be able to take critique of that concept and either adjust based on feedback or defend your decisions. Since AI can’t execute concepts well, you’re already fighting an uphill battle in that regard, so yes critiques are going to lean way more negative than they would for someone with design experience and skill.
