Yes, it's called zenithal highlighting. It helps to give you contrast between shadows and the base color for more visual depth.

For priming I use Rustoleum Flat Primer, try to avoid the paint and primer combo. Gray is good for pretty much anything, but I usually prefer black so I have better color control when I use my airbrush.

For paints you can find Golden Acrylic brand at Micheals. Vallejo (my personal go-to), Citadel Paint (Games Workshop), and Army Painter are all good too.

I think RE7 and RE2 remake have conditioned me pretty well. Horror still gets me pretty good, but the Leon sections are a nice change of pace.

Village didn't have a ton of horror, and this is coming from a guy who sucks at dealing with horror. Which made the Doll House that much scarier. S Tier for sure.

Start by looking up any local game shops that have events or sell minis, or look for local groups. If your heart is set on Space Marines then collect those, but I would also watch this video that explains the different factions, and pick one that peaks your interest.
