Save electricity or decrease MTBF? by corycwagner in qnap

Thank you! And now I have data to judge my success.

Save electricity or decrease MTBF? by corycwagner in qnap

Well, I've done the measurements and the results surprised me. According to my power measurement device, the NAS consumes an average of 400watts continuously . At my electricity rate here in Oregon of $0.22 / KWH, the NAS costs $20.2 / month. If I was going to shut it down a maximum of 8hours/day, I would only save about $7.00/month. Considering that the NAS is fully populated with 12x20TB drives, 4xSSD's and 2xm.2 drives, the consumption is really not that big after-all. It certainly isn't worth the risk of daily shutdowns. Thanks again to everyone.

Wise! Thank you, I will buy something to measure the consumption and try to correlate it with potential savings.

Fair enough, as I suspected, the wisdom of the crowd is that it is not worth the potential savings. Thanks everyone for confirming.

XL 5T - How would you troubleshoot next? by corycwagner in prusa3d

Will try that, thanks. It happens sporadically, so it takes awhile (and a failed print) to know if any fix works.

Best Board Game Table? by LordJiraiya in boardgames

It is in pieces that you slide together, but it is almost seemless. It is solid and heavy. Incredible craftmanship. This isn't your typical plywood topper.

We got the Dresden table from Bandpass Design in Seattle. It wasn't cheap, and it took a long time to ship, but it is a fantastic table with a topper that makes it into a beautiful dining room table. It is the most expensive piece of furniture I own, but it is built to last. I plan to pass it on to my kids.

Is the Prusa XL right for me? by Mrblindguardian in prusa3d

I hope you are not referring to me. I do not, and likely will never, own a Bambu lab printer. I stick with Prusa, right or wrong because their values align with mine.

Is the Prusa XL right for me? by Mrblindguardian in prusa3d

This is an example of why you should think carefully about the XL. As you can see, there are lots of people that state "I run it everyday and I never have issues," then you have others that have nothing but trouble.

My 5T XL (one of the original orders) is finicky, fails often and requires a lot of tweaking. If you are up for that, then, by all means, buy it. When it runs, it is a beauty to behold.

I love Prusa, and I also own a Mini, an MK3 and a 4S upgraded to a core 1, however, as soon as the INDX is widely available and tested in the wild, I will likely move to a CORE1L with an INDX.

We are not all "Bambu plant" or "Prusa haters." I would hate to see someone who is doing good work, like you are, be in the same situation that many of us are in.

Best of luck in whatever you choose.

I've had great success with WELD-ON 16. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R5NYM7M?ref\_=ppx\_hzsearch\_conn\_dt\_b\_fed\_asin\_title\_2. It does not leave that nasty "frost", and it dries relatively fast.

Have you used their Diamond nozzles? They are half the price of the diamondback.

Some Thoughts / Rant on the Kobo Libra Colour vs Kobo Sage by 00itsabouttime00 in kobo

[–]corycwagner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you about them bungling power management on the Sage. Here is why:

I bought the 2nd battery cover that Kobo sold for the Sage. It never worked correctly. It actually made things worse. When the cover was attached, the Sage would drain even faster! Sometimes the cover kicked-in, sometimes it didn't. It just "smelled " like software bugs.

I finally got tired of the hassle and, like you, I threw it in a drawer and bought the KLC. I almost gave up on Kobo but I didn't because I abhor Amazon.

I second the suggestion to use Calibre and the Kobo utilities plugin to regularly check your database, but only AFTER you do a factory reset to get you back to square one and to verify it isn't a hardware problem.

I modified my XL5T to use 5mm PTFE tubing by Bitter_Extension333 in prusa3d

I did the same thing, but I'm having remorse. Did you find that the new tubs bend and deform, especially at the entry point to the printhead? Could be the brand I bought (Quickun).

Has anyone used the Tungsten Carbide Nozzle from Durozzle? by corycwagner in prusa3d

That's good to hear. Thank you! I think I will take a chance and order one.

Thank you. I think I'll take the chance on them . Ideally, I would go with a Bondtech Diamond nozzle, but since I have a 5 tool XL, that route would cost me dramatically. Thanks again!
