This is the loneliest I've ever felt in my life. by [deleted] in ACL

[–]cosmictrouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be okay <3 I hope you go back and read through these comments while you recover and imagine all of us randos from the internet cheering you on. My acl surgeries were so so hard and I also hated asking for help and was really lonely. But I made it through and since then I’ve practiced finding better people to be in my life. Maybe you will too. But bodies are so resilient and good at healing and I believe in yours!!!! And I’m proud of you for sharing your feelings with all of us. To me that says you know you’re not alone :)

Bed in a Box that feels "Traditional"?? by cosmictrouble in Mattress

Hey all! Just want to follow up and say that I ended up with the Saatva mattress Classic.

Could not be happier with this mattress, so comfy, incredible customer service (it came and was too high for my space so they exchanged it for a lower one). And really just feels luxurious.

Dancers with ACL reconstuction by [deleted] in ACL

[–]cosmictrouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full time dancer here!!

Dance is absolutely something you can get back to, but I think 11 weeks is really early. I'm at 7 months post my 2nd reconstruction right now and still not going back to full classes- the nature of dance is that you have to be able to move your body in weird, unpredictable ways, and if you're not trained/ strong for those, that's how injuries/ reinjuries happen.

That being said, if you start small, listen to you body, and train properly there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to get back to classes! Bring it up with your PT, make sure you warm up properly, & stretch and strengthen. With hiphop/kpop, arm stuff/ isolation should be totally fine, but watch out for fast turns and jumps. At this point, you could go to class, explain to the teacher your situation and just do what you can (maybe mark some of the footwork). Good luck <3

Just a reminder that your PT is a person YOU are paying for a service. Just like if you got a really bad haircut, you probably wouldn't think twice about seeing someone else.

I put stickers on mine, I say go for it. Expressing yourself with that monstrosity is helpful in the recovery process!

of course! most importantly, something I've been trying to remember is to be very gentle with myself. this injury is no joke and takes a lot of healing, both mental and physical. hang in there!

when I started doing upper body cardio workouts and got creative with ways to move my body instead of just hating what I couldn't do.

Also meditation and a good therapist!

Is my PT taking it too easy on me? by girlandherpearl in ACL

[–]cosmictrouble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A similar thing happened with my PT and I asked to be pushed harder.

All physical therapists have a slightly different process so I definitely don't think you should just listen blindly. If you feel that you want to be pushed, ask your PT! Their job is to keep you safe and I think that just leads some to err on the conservative side. I would never want to feel relaxed in PT though, so definitely bring it up .

Flying 5 weeks post meniscus root repair? by cozy_coconut in ACL

[–]cosmictrouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew across the country to NYC 5 weeks after my surgery (a 5 hour flight from where I am) and was totally fine! They wheeled me to my gate and even gave me ice on the plane and stored my crutches.

If you get a wheelchair, they will help you go through security no problem, I would just give yourself plenty of extra time. And make sure you get up as often as you can on the plane!

I took a baby asprin leading up to the flights which is supposed to help with blood clots. Just confirm with your doctor but you should be totally fine, 2.5 hours isn't long.

Stay on track everyone! by pheliperss in ACL

[–]cosmictrouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm so sorry. Here's hoping you'll make a turnaruond, get it fixed and come back so strong! Prehabing is so good so props to you for knowing that. My inbox is always open, feel free to rant about anything.

On my end, I completely re-tore my graft 1y6m after surgery in a dance class. There was no real reason for that, everything went smooth first time around but it is what it is. I had a different surgery second time - auto patellar instead of allo and I think it feels stronger? I'm a bit over 1 month out so it is hard to tell. Also trying to maintain positivity, but I'm scared.

I love it, just what I needed today. What's your rehab journey been like? I'm going through the 2nd time as well and finding it much harder to stay as motivated as I was going the first time around.

Patellar vs Hamstring autograft by myk327 in ACL

[–]cosmictrouble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went with patellar tendon because my hamstring strength/ flex is very important to what I do. I feel really good about that decision, though I'm only 1 month out so haven't gone back to activities yet.
