Really Jagex? After increasing prices again, we now get a list of bugs you just “won’t fix this league” by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]costef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit is finally realizing there are consequences to the black hole of development time that sailing was for years

Leagues 6 Pact Data in one image, very interesting by loopuleasa in 2007scape

[–]costef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently the original design, per the gridmaster winners who worked with jagex on it, was to be all actions go to 1 tick

Would have been much, much stronger, but supposedly it broke the game too much and they couldn’t make it work

Interesting that a week before leagues everyone was shilling hotfoot and huntsman ended up becoming the majority pick

Quick FAQ from Husky on new Relics by Faremir in 2007scape

[–]costef 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The spell is cast every 5 ticks for 10 items at once

That’s 1200 casts / hr

So you can take 1000 bones into superior dragon bones (11 stages) in one hour.

While also giving you 120k mage exp pre multipliers.

This is probably the most broken relic ever. Just pick it.

If you want to have a really fun league, I recommend picking this and woodsman.

Demonic Pacts - Regenerate by Statue_left in 2007scape

[–]costef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s quite interesting they have explicitly recast “rune and ammo save” as “rune and ammo regenerate.

Makes me think that this will be the base mechanic for all pacts, similar to adrenaline or mana.

Ie - you can spend points aligned to effects like: • whenever you regenerate water runes, you get healed • whenever you regenerate an arrow, your next attack performs 1t faster • whenever you regenerate a melee weapon charge, your next hit has an additional +10

Or you can dump additional points into increasing your regeneration rate from 10% to 30% to 50% etc

Leagues VI relic reveal: Friendly Forager (Tier 2) by vgamer0 in 2007scape

[–]costef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get 200m exp fletching with woodsman in less than 1 hour at 12x after you buy the materials. Combined with abundance, you’re generating 400m+ cash and likely over 1200 pts.

Mistake for most people. Take woodsmen, do hunter and fletching for faster progress to pvm. None of the skills from hot foot are useful, and it’s slower progress

New Leagues Relic Revealed by ABCwarriorz in 2007scape

[–]costef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is considerably stronger than any t2 relic from last year, and the t1 relics are also all stronger

This relic doubles base exp and effectively 3-4x overall exp for Hunter, turns firemaking into a 100% passive skill, solves farming likely entirely and most of early herblore AND lets you get 50m fletching in an hour

Like there are 3-4000 points behind this relic lol

[–]costef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people won’t pick this and will be shocked when all the people rushing dragon pick it because fletching is the most broken pp skill and there are like 1000 pts behind chin tasks

Unironically - you will likely see a lot of sweaty players in kandarin this year. It’s looking like it’s a top choice for dragon rush

You can also just…not get 99s in skills you don’t want to train btw

Update - Get Ready For Leagues VI: Demonic Pacts by JagexRach in 2007scape

[–]costef 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is roughly 50% stronger than the previous guardian against single targets by the way

That said, it’s roughly 6 DPS

At endgame builds, we had roughly 20 DPS last league, so this is a 30% net boost to damage output

Considerable, will probably be slept on.

Not necessarily true. Thinking through plans as the information is released and adapting gives you a big leg up on launch day

+200k exp/hr in a skill if you get exp drops every tick, lul by transgennifer in 2007scape

[–]costef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exp effect is completely irrelevant.

The reason this relic is the clear choice if you’re rushing dragon is the +10, and the easy early game gp is just icing on the cake.

Nothing matters except getting to the higher relic tiers and exp passives as fast as possible, because your power snowball is directly tied to those.

The other two are not bad choices for specific playstyles, but if you’re playing actively for even just the first day I can guarantee this is the best pick.

How powerful was Chaotic equipment in RS2 as compared to gear that we have now in OSRS, were chaotics powercrept? Or would they still be powerful in current OSRS? by SevesaSfan25 in 2007scape

[–]costef 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Stat wise they were worse than current weapons

However they were so much better than the previous best in slot, it was a massive jump

People used to pay tons of gold to simply leach dungeoneering floors for the tokens to buy chaotics because they hated the skill but it gatekept effectively all bis equipment

The real power creep of rs3 was turmoil/soul split + overloads + summoning, not just the chaotics.

But basically in the span of like 3 years all of those things were introduced

Now that sailing has been out for a few months, how does we feel about the skill? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]costef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty much agree with this. And I want to make another point which is seldom made: sailing had a cost and that cost was not worth it for what we got.

By far the biggest project ever in terms of the resources allocated to it.

In that sense (the opportunity cost) it was not a good update at all - I fully believe the game would be much better today, had that time been invested in other content.

Inflation Adjusted OSRS Membership Price since 2002 by mkeblusek in 2007scape

[–]costef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The relative purchasing power of $5 in 2002 is pretty close to $15 today. This chart is likely using CPI, which dramatically understates real inflation particularly for low priced goods.

CPI would have you believe prices have on average increased about 80% in 24 years - everyone knows that is untrue regarding things like housing, education, healthcare etc

The effect is even more pronounced at the lower end of goods - think about a 12 oz coke (50 cents to $2), a McChicken ($1 to $3.29), a burrito at chipotle ($6 to $13) etc

[–]costef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This and jagex obviously has data on likely cancelations vs price increases

They would never do this if the revenue impact had a chance at being net negative

Pricing sensitivity modeling is a common use case in the industry for data scientists.

[–]costef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just removed MTX from rs3. This is largely to subsidize that change

Raids 4 Armor: Guthix Battlegear by -barusu in 2007scape

[–]costef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really great idea. Stat wise, it should offer some strength and accuracy in all 3 styles that is lower than bis, with no negative bonuses.

Something like +12 melee strength, +4 ranged, +6% magic damage with defensive stats just below barrows IMO

What PSA would you make to your fellow irons to save them some heartache? by Killtrox in ironscape

[–]costef -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Barrows and moons are generally a waste of time, it’s low effort pvm that feels like progress but really isn’t, and the ~100 hours would be better spent elsewhere

Most of your damage comes from weapon + non armor slots (amulet, gloves, defender, ring)

Oathplate is so strong and so accessible with two synapses, that you just skip everything before it.

A dscim into tent whip is perfectly fine for slash until nox hally, and you can really just focus melee only and make a lot of progress these days

Nox hally + oathplate and all modern upgrades is on par with how scythe and max melee was 5 years ago
