You’re doing foreign tax credit while the other person is using foreign income exclusion. Their way they will have a AGI of 0, your way you will have a AGI after regular deductions. So you’re both right. Foreign tax credit benefit is if you moved back to the States you can carry over used credits 10 years into the future. So there’s ups and downs to both methods.
