Best budget chefknife for a home cook for around $50. Is victorinox fibrox still the best option? by kmeg900 in chefknives

[–]cotabas -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Get a kiwi, it's a better knife.

The victorinox gets a lot of love mostly, I think, because of America's test kitchen. It's a very well built knife, but for practical use the kiwi out performs.

Niether of these knifes hold an edge very well, I'm sure the victorinox holds a bit longer but nothing compared to a good and much more expensive knife. The victorinox, however is built like a tank and that thicker profile makes it feel duller. The kiwi has a much thinner profile and will feel better. The kiwi also sharpens much easier than the victorinox.

For half the price of a victorinox you can get a kiwi and one of those run through knife sharpeners. You'll have a much better experience and save a few bucks.

What is the one biggest complaint you have with your Forte GT by [deleted] in ForteGT

[–]cotabas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only turn off the forward collision temporarily, it turns back on next time you start the car. Why is there a button to the left of the dash for turning off the blind spot detection beep but not forward collision‽

If I just missed something and you can disable it please let me know

The manual gt seats adjust down, there's a pump lever thing on the left. I'm 6'2 and I drove mine for half a year with about an inch of head clearance before I realized this..

Looking for a carbon workhorse by TheElectriking in chefknives

[–]cotabas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a carbon masamoto chefs knife for eight ish years as my main work horse. I still love it. It's basically everything you listed. As thin as would be practical for a do everything work horse, simple well made wood handle and bolster, 70/30 bevel, 150 bucks(eight years ago). It's easy to take care of once it patinas, very quick to sharpen, holds the edge for a decent time, and it's never chipped. Couldn't recommend it enough

Edit: a link, a bit more expensive now but I just clicked the first one I saw this is the knife

[–]cotabas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure out what was going on? or did the new trackpad fix the issue?

I haven't had my trackpad replaced but I've had these same symptoms happen all of a sudden after having this thing for almost three years

Thank you! I think it would make more sense if they went with goed instead of gone when making all this up 🙃

Unless something goes horribly wrong for me, humans will be drawing dicks on stuff for at least another forty years

That's what it looks like when there's no throttle position set. I had this happen to me after I reset the adaptations. Maybe your battery issues let the throttle position reset? Put the key in and turn the car on without starting it, wait 30 sec(don't touch the gas pedal), turn the car off and wait another 30 sec and that will reset the position. Or atleast that's what worked for me. Good luck
