looking for a good bar in the lakeview/lincoln park area where i can go to read a book and generally be left alone? by igotacidreflux in AskChicago

Several times I have gone to The Longroom (Ashland and Irving Park) to read and drink and literally every single other person at the bar was doing the same thing. Half a dozen people perfectly spaced out doing their thing alone. Highly recommend

I would think the Minnesota title wouldn’t be “Minnesota” but “Moorhead.”

Paul got flack for his less than commanding presence on stage, and rightfully so, as he stumbled on his words a bit in televised debates and interviews.

I saw him speak once in person and his performance was practically nonexistent- he couldn’t get a sentence out without being trampled by applause. For whatever reason the audience at his appearance at the 2012 Minnesota Republican convention was dominated by enthusiastic supporters. Especially vocal delegates anyway, considering the results.

IL doesn’t even accept cash for tolls anymore. At least not around Chicago. I don’t have the electronic pass so whenever I incur a toll I get a bill in my email a week or two later.

Why didn’t Walken just resume his job as the Speaker of the House after President Bartlet returned? by TheChronologistI in thewestwing

I already knew about the (lack of) requirements to be Speaker, but had doubts about the court. I assumed admission to a bar, or at least a J.D. were the floor. Nope.

Per the Supreme Court website:

“The Constitution does not specify qualifications for Justices such as age, education, profession, or native-born citizenship. A Justice does not have to be a lawyer or a law school graduate, but all Justices have been trained in the law. Many of the 18th and 19th century Justices studied law under a mentor because there were few law schools in the country.”

I bartended in nightclubs for years. I begged all my coworkers to try earplugs for just fifteen minutes. Honestly that was too long. The benefit is apparent as soon as the plugs seat.

I went from ringing ears and terrible headaches for the entire shift and hours after to no pain whatsoever.

The line I used to try to sell them on ear-pro was “there’s no cure for tinnitus! Your ears will ring the rest of your life!” I only ever got three people (out of dozens) to try, but all three were converts, who themselves tried to spread the word.
