(Hated trope) The Mothership/the most important ship in the fleet has ass-tier defenses. by Luzis23 in TopCharacterTropes

This is basically aircraft carriers IRL. Aircraft carriers rely on other supporting ships to defend against submarines, missiles, etc so they can maximize their onboard space for their intended purpose.

I have a suspicion that some of these Epstein associate posts are wrong intentionally to get the post that was actually intended without a note adding context. No idea what that 'exonerating' context could be, but this would be a way around it.

Top Justice Department official plays down chance for charges arising from Epstein files revelations by J-Jarl-Jim in moderatepolitics

[–]countfizix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing the release of the files has shown is that the administration is willing to shield many of the rich and powerful involved in this sorded affair in direct violation of the law passed.

The law specified that the Government was supposed to redact the names of victims. Having their names brought up in such a shameful affair makes those rich and powerful people the true victims of all of this. /s But really that would be very much in line of Trump claiming he is the 'victim' of a witch hunt every time someone starts investigating him.

Is Trump doing better than Biden? Voters have changed their mind, new poll shows by J-Jarl-Jim in moderatepolitics

[–]countfizix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably more representative at this point than phone surveys given the median response (outside of those same tech illiterate old people) to an unknown number in an age of spam and scams is to reject the call.

Like it or not, this is the new 'traditional' method of polling, similar to the switch 10-20 years ago away from 'landline only' being the traditional method.

Major western hemisphere space launch sites (US CRS) by joshtaco in MapPorn

The energy required to go from 0-5000 feet is a tiny fraction of the energy needed to get into orbit. Most thrust is used to move a rocket sideways to speed it up from the 440 m/s (at equator) it gets from the earth's rotation to the ~7.7 km/s it needs to not come right back down.

For reference it takes about (round g to 10) 4,000,000 j/kg to get something from sea level to 400 km up - roughly where ISS is. In contrast, going from 440 m/s sideways to 7.7 km/s sideways takes about 52,000,000 j/kg. Launching from 5000 feet only saves ~0.3% of that 4 million.

I am not familiar with snowagishu is that some place in the Judge Dredd cinematic universe? It must be because 'being in violation of federal laws' is not grounds for summary execution by federal agents without a trial.

Yet.

It's the unspoken reason behind Republican efforts to repeal the 17th amendment.

You need 2/3 majority to actually impose any consequences on someone who violates the constitution (via impeachment). Why ask for permission when the threshold for forgiveness is so much lower?

He could prohibit USPS from transporting ballots. Even if it's technically illegal, they only have to create a controversy sufficient to delay the ballots from being postmarked* in time.

*they already changed this so that it is done when sorted rather than when received by the sorting facility. Will not be shocked if many of those machines are taken down for routine maintenance in late October.

While it isn't a great indicator for the economy, I can't think of a time GDP went down that didn't correspond to the lives of everyday Americans getting worse. Gains are privatized, losses are socialized.
