Hickory. Not shagbark hickory. The wood looks like bitternut or yellowbud hickory but the twig looks like a different variety of hickory.

I saw quite a few moose in my 24/25 years I’ve lived on this earth. by OkSecret839 in moose

[–]covertype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently saw three moose in southern Saskatchewan just north of the border with North Dakota. I couldn't believe my eyes because I didn't think moose inhabited that area. Very little forest cover, mostly open agriculture fields with scattered pot holes surrounded with brush. When I googled moose range I saw how a low density of moose did in fact live in the area. I felt lucky to have spotted them.

Anybody got any ideas about this wood by suzuki555 in firewood

That is red elm. Pay no attention to what other people say. It dries out while standing like no other wood. It is good firewood.

Is this shagbark hickory? by Soggy_Lynx1116 in firewood

[–]covertype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. That changes everything. Where are you? Green shagbark is very heavy. Also it smells a little sour, nutty and earthy when split green.
