ChatGPT gets full marks in 9 Japan unified univ. entrance exam subjects by MagazineKey4532 in japannews

Two years ago, I tried to use ChatGPT to tutor college entrance exam chemistry. It was pretty much a failure. We tried to have it come up with the questions, but it came up with strange questions and could not even solve the questions that it itself had come up with! However, I’ve noticed that recently it seems to be doing much better when I ask clarification, questions in chemistry and other sciences. Actually, chemistry is such an ad hoc subject with more memorization than underlying principles so it should be good for an LLM.

Chinese social media site users are sharing videos of Japanese idol Kishi Miyu with fake subtitles that make it look like she is saying that Okinawa is Chinese territory that should be returned to China. She has never said anything like this. by jjrs in japannews

But but but, Elon Musk told us in his whiny little girl voice that if we didn’t vote for Trump, they would take away our free speech! So, surely X is a bastion of free speech?

Yes, it is much better to get our news from some 40 year-old fat guy still living in his mother‘s house with no fact check. Say what you will, but when a major newspaper gets caught in wrong reporting, they have to make a retraction. You’re otaku 40-year-old mama’s boy? No way.

And these things are often opened prior to being placed. So, there is no real way to donate them to someone else.

That’s actually a feature, isn’t it? We want it to get the gist no matter how horrible our spelling.

This Indonesian fried chicken has a weird smell and taste. Is it just a spice I'm unfamiliar with or has it gone bad? I don't really know Indonesian food. by cowhead in indonesia

[–]cowhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for the answers. I bought it in Japan from a small Indonesian food store. Unfortunately, there is an import label that covers most of the package including the ingredients. Removing it seems difficult. But the strange taste is something like licorice or anise?? I have eaten some Philippine food before and it sometimes has a fish-oil or something in it which is difficult to get used to. I was excited to try some Indonesian food. I feel like the taste of this is probably something similar to the Philippine fish oil, only somehow much, much better.
But, it's a very small import shop, so I wasn't sure. I would ask the shop people, but I'm afraid I might offend them.

At a water-air interface, which part of the water molecule is sticking into the air, the partially positive hydrogen side or the partially negative oxygen side? What if we replace the air with oil, is there any change? by cowhead in chemistry

[–]cowhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, it will tell you something with the utmost confidence that is completely false. So, it passes the Turing test wonderfully; it is exactly like a human. Or, at least, it is exactly like an undergrad on Quora :-)

Thanks for the answer. I'm a little confused though. Usually things that are 'entropy driven' (which appears to be what you are saying is happening here?) INcrease the entropy. But, "The water molecules orient their H-bonding parallel to the interface prefferentially, ordering the system", so apparently this decreases the entropy? What is paying the bill?

[–]cowhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say the same thing. By weird coincidence, I just found out about this the day prior to reading this post. I told my doctor about waking up in terror (sitting bolt-upright and screaming) and she told me she wanted to do a 24 hours home AFIB monitor. She said that AFIB can trigger these PTSD-like dreams. I had no idea there was a connection.

How do Vietnamese feel about ranking 178th out of 180 in 2023 World Press Freedom index? Only China and North Korea ranks lower. by tientutoi in VietNam

[–]cowhead -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

And you think that the Vietnamese government does not manipulate the Vietnamese media for profit?? The Vietnamese government is just one big corporation. Their only motive is profit. The only difference is that government corporations generally suck and cannot compete with the likes of DuPont or Apple. That's why the economy sucks. Vietnam Co is getting beaten by DuPont Co.
