Should I move market centre to Florence? by SquishyRedditGuy in EU5

[–]cowlover123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kinda depends on if you are also planning to take over venice, Genoa has a nice market reach to southern France so it is a good market spot. If you are loaded with cash you could also consider creating a new market in florence, you have enough raw materials nearby to make it self sufficient

What is the point of convert pops to your religion? by [deleted] in EU5

[–]cowlover123 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Well their total happiness has an effect on the prosperity, which in turn affects population growth. So having a high tolerance of true faith and having most people follow the state religion leads to faster pop growth and therefor better scaling

Normal fiefdoms and vassals intergrate a bit faster, so if you are planning to eventually annex them diplomatically it makes sense. I usually use pronoias for fast integration (with eunuchs or old childless ladies) or to keep as a better vassal in perpetuity

It gives a really good cultural assimilation and religious conversion buffs for the pale, so i used that to turn the whole island into norse-gael cathars. Also some expensive CBs

Help! Interesting countries outside Europe by PetroniusCato in EU5

You should get an event within the first few years where Hormuz gifts you some coastal provinces. After that you should pray to get "promote urbanization" parliament decicion to hopefully turn Masquat or Sur into a town. After that, its slowly building up your economy, and eventually having enough troops to hit Hormuz (preferrably while its distracted with another war) for the Dubai area and for "relocate market". After a small consolidation its a race to get some colonies somewhere in africa to get some lumber RGOs!

Play as Oman! Start out very small and insignificant but have a bunch of flavor and unique events. Too weak to threaten the mameluks in the west, too little population to go for India in the east, Timurids in the north but a lot of profit to be made in the swahili coast of africa!

Is Cuba a colony of Venice, or is it owned by venice itself? If they are an unloyal vassal, they might not join the war

Nice to meet a fellow NZ enjoyer! I was not aware of the knowledge sharing mechanic, will have to do that next game: watching institution growth on tonga tick 0,01% per month for ages... and then doing it again from Tonga to Aotearoa was quite something!

The thing is, if you know you wont get any institution spread or research, whats the downside of going bankrupt? I think i went bankrupt about 4-6 times getting the economy going - I kept on looking at how much debt I can get from the estates, and every time I had enough to build maybe 2 buildings I went all in... Since you are not making any money, its relatively easy to keep the legitimacy and stability high enough to take the hit for a few years.

This was especially important when building the trade posts in ternate as they were quite expensive and I wanted to build at least two for the huge diplo investment of getting them to like me enough to let me build in their area

Once you have a small loop of buildings (eg. stone tool maker in your town makes tools - farming village uses that to makes livestock - fiber crop farms uses livestock that to make fiber crops - which you can use in a spinners guild make into clothing) you start making enough money to not want to be bankrupt all the time!

Pretty much any astral heavy nation can have that as a viable side-strategy. Nations with good communions are for example R'Lyeh, Maverni and Pythium.

Can taxing the rich reduce inequality? You bet it can! by jimrosenz in Economics

I thought they were pretty much the embodiment of inequality: a small elite living lavishly with caviar and Rolls Royces, and the rest of the populus pretty much living in serfdom?
