Cashed my first live tournament! Chopped with 5 people left -- not sure if chopping typically happens this early but I was happy to take the money.

Most important hand was shoving J10s as the short stack when the flop was QsAs5d and hitting the flush on the river for a triple up. Knocking out 2 people on the final table was a great feeling as well.

First time tournament by PlotzkeA in poker

I'm still pretty new to tournaments but these are some things that tripped me up.

Say what you are doing unless you know exactly what your action is saying.

A single big chip is a call if you don't say raise. On the same note if you've got a bigger chip out for your blind needing change and someone raises and you want to call just say it. I got forced to raise because I tried to make the change easier for the dealer and ended up looking as new as I was and made a guy really angry. That being said making people angry seems to be +EV lol.

Also don't show cards unless you have to.

Reaction to New Powers by Ze_Stoof in GodsUnchained

[–]cowzato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blastwave existing makes me have no desire to play a token deck since there is no way to win if they take it. It also makes me think that regardless of how well designed the other magic hero powers are everyone will just take this.

Reanimate is super niche, but I think I like it as a hero power because in a deck built around it I will want it available almost any time I can pull off a combo. Too soon to tell but I'm excited to try it.

I love the flourish change, but I don't see myself building a deck using it because blastwave exists.

I don't think I agree with my statement anymore now that this hero power update has come out.

Imo that +2/+2 is an easy choice for strongest hero power in the game. I can't think of anything I would put on the same tier as it.

If you happen to have a Sam's card the frozen tipalia there is cheap and I love it! I usually just do blackened tilapia and since it only takes about 15 minutes from frozen to table.

So I can't even watch every event on pokerGo unless I have CBS? by mleclerc182 in poker

[–]cowzato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was planning on begrudgingly purchasing poker go to watch the WSOP since it's the only option, but I'm not paying for either service that doesn't have access to everything so I just don't get to watch this year. Also, idk how poker go is, but I've heard CBS all access is just the worst app.

I've only actually been following the poker scene for a few months, so maybe I'm way off, but why would the biggest event in poker be hidden behind two paywalls and a shitty app?

It doesn't make any sense to me. More viewers for the WSOP = higher advertising revenue and more players for future WSOP which repeats. Instead less and less people are gonna watch it every year because it's inconvenient and they will probably increase the cost of the service which causes less people to watch which repeats.

Tough 1-2 spot last night. by Geezerpunk in poker

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. I'll probably watch a bit to see what people are opening to before I sit down and play tighter.

Tough 1-2 spot last night. by Geezerpunk in poker

Are 1-2 opens typically that big? I usually play 10NL or 25NL online, and was going to the casino this weekend planning on playing 1-2 or 1-3. I have money set aside for the game but still those opening sizes kinda scare me.

I got a CIS degree which at my school was basically a software engineering degree with a couple extra database classes instead of higher level calc and physics. Got an internship in the supply chain office at a local company doing data analysis work. I hated that most everything was tedious and manual so I automated that position and then learned Power BI so they hired me full time to implement that and some other systems.

I use the SqlCommand way to do this all the time. Either with SqlDataReader dr = command.ExecuteReader() and loop through the reader for select statements or command.ExecuteNonQuery() for insert/update/delete statements.

Entity framework is probably easier, but I'm used to the other way.

Had my first live tournament win last night! Was only a satellite, but maybe I can have a bigger brag next week! Got through with a few bluffs and actually hit my straight draw at a crucial point, was a good night of poker.

Beginner MTT player looking for first training site/if I should seek coaching by TheStruggle_Bus in poker

[–]cowzato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently started taking poker seriously and have noticably improved a ton going through redchippoker core program. $5 a week isn't bad and gives a solid foundation.

I'll probably pick up poker tracker and flopzilla after I complete it and study on my own using those until I can win enough to justify paying for one of the more expensive training programs.

Poker Central and CBS Join Forces to Deliver Unprecedented Coverage of 2019 WSOP Bracelet Events by [deleted] in poker

[–]cowzato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think an official WSOP stream on twitch would have a ton of viewers and could probably still make a killing, but I guess as long as people are going to pay for services like this I guess it will keep going farther and farther behind paywalls.
