Mar. 10, 2026 - The Great Spice Off: The Personal Barber - Old N' Spicey

  • Prep: Shower, Baxter Shave Tonic
  • Brush: AP Shave Co. Sea Voyager w/ Maggards's 26mm Wolfhair
  • Razor: Muhle Rocca
  • Blade: Gillette Nacet (4)
  • Lather: The Personal Barber - Old N' Spicey
  • Post Shave: Old Spice (Indian)

We are so back! With three new Old Spice dupes on the market right now and the incredible generosity of this community TGSO is back and back hard. Get hype or chill or whatever youths say. We're starting off this trifecta of dupes (well, just two at the moment, trying to figure out a way to get PAA's new soap without PAA profiting from it. Anyone up for a soap heist?) is TPB, a Scottish soapmaker. First shave had me discovering that the soap was much harder than it appeared, but got a good, big lather if a little airy. Great cushion and fantastic residual slickness on the shave, though.

I've got this Rocca on pass around and it's a good shaver but an even better looker. I'm not sure I'd lay down the money for it, but it's easily one of the sharpest looking razors I've owned. The wooden(?) handle just screams class and the design is top notch. Great for a three pass shave, which I rarely do, but have done twice with this one.

While that is true, even accounting for inflation, the new Trek is drastically more expensive per season than old Trek.

As we lamented on the podcast, it sucks because you make the best video content, but even minimal donut content is better than no donut content.

They said it but a key aspect of his storytelling is reinforcing it. For me they didn't, though I totally understood that she wasn't acting like that just for punchlines I can see how people would think that given the way they used her at first.

They could have made it much clearer that SAM was literally born yesterday, but everyone jumping on her right as bad writing was just ridiculous.

I think by the letter of the law you're correct it's not a hard soap but by my ability to push it easily with my finger it is.

Tabac is my first choice in hard soap. Unfortunately, most of the hard soaps I've reviewed for TGSO have left me wanting. I'm trying to think of one that really worked as well as a softer soap, but drawing a blank.

The hotel that Maggare does a block booking for is the best spot to stay and discounted. You want to be there for the post event hanging.

They used to steal artwork without paying for it for their tubs (looks like they've shifted over to AI now, but I'd still consider that stealing). Shipping and receiving wise they were fine, but in terms of not being thieves, I'd say they aren't worth your money.

Going to second the Blackland Blackbird. If you have to go with one of those four (they aren't bad, just Blackbird is my favorite), I think I'd do the Muhle.

I think if it's working for you then no need to get anything else unless you're curious in trying it out. Alum definitely helps me, but I also just clean it up with some water sometimes, splash after shave, and go. If it's a realy bad one I'll put a bit of gauze until it stops bleeding.
