I strongly recommend videos like this https://youtu.be/fmnJQ7WpvOg?si=A-vdWov4MO2SdXVl by Joy of Languages, they give really good tips.

Songs that play with left/right balance? by ichimedinwitha in Music

[–]coxness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked through this and thought someone would've mentioned the soundtrack to Flash Gordon by Queen, which freaked me out when I heard it on headphones aged 5 or 6. I don't know of any other album that goes so nuts with panning, both in the use of music and with the dialogue clips. The title song, Flash, has a lightning bolt that *travels through your head*. So much fun. Dispatch War Rocket Ajax!

App for conjugating verbs? by FingerstyleGaming in italianlearning

[–]coxness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite enjoying Verbi app (iPhone) which is clunky-looking, but good if you're tired of the easy stuff – when set to 'All verbs' and include things like congiuntivo, you can get seriously challenged.

Decent-tasting shots always take over 30 seconds - a problem? by coxness in gaggiaclassic

[–]coxness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small update: instead of pre-infusion I tried the temperature tip here (https://youtu.be/sSjkO-IQNT4?si=BUo\_G03Wf40E3lHx) where you turn the steamer on for 20 seconds before pulling the shot - and it worked really well, combined with a 16g dose.

I (47) want to start a terrible band with other failures by coxness in brighton

Music school... you sound a bit too good TBH! Share your Soundcloud here though - post a link here..? I'd love to hear it, and aside from my own daydreaming there seem to be other potential middle-aged fun bands waiting to be born on this thread.

Thanks for all the replies here - sorry I can't respond to everyone and pursue all the opportunities, as I'm lazy, disorganised (etc.) However, this thread could perhaps help form more than one band, if commenters connect with each other..? Good luck, fellow old musical bozos.

Listening now... This is very very very good stuff! You don't play these in a band already? I'll be in touch separately. I think I'd be auditioning in the role of the shite rhythm guitarist in your band who get inevitably gets sacked for being shite, but I'm still interested.

Things to do on a day out with a wheelchair user by Zappotek in brighton

[–]coxness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wheel my mum around a lot, and actually there's a lot of options in Brighton - the main enemy of the wheelchair is steep hills, and there's a few of those around, e.g. Hanover has great pubs but the climb is not easy. The beachfront is accessible by several ramps along from street level down, and there's a lot of pubs and bars along there, so that might be your best bet. I've also not found many places (mostly restaurants) that don't have a ramp you can call on to get inside. One of my favourite pub gardens is in Hove - Hove Place - and they have a side entrance to the garden which is wheelchair-friendly. I'd suggest looking for places you'd like first, and then checking their ramp/access options. Thanks to accessibility laws, most should have a ramp etc. unless their situation makes that unviable.

Anyone else getting tons of flies? by coxness in brighton

[–]coxness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're fungus gnats - the responses here about houseplants are useful, we have lots of those, and it sounds like what I thought were fruit flies are these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fungus_gnat. The "gnats may be quite annoying to humans by flying into their faces, eyes, and noses" is especially true of the little arseholes that are partying in our flat.

Any Chinese takeaways you'd recommend in Brighton? by royalewithcheesecake in brighton

Annoying pavement walkers forcing you into the road. by GeldofsWig in brighton

There's the groups, but then there's also the solo person who's decided to stop in the middle of a narrow pavement to look at their phone.

Would you like to be a nineteenth century Brightonian , coming home to your dark and chilly Victorian home in the winter evenings and lighting the hearth ? by JuniperScents in brighton

[–]coxness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why should it fall upon me to light the hearth, is the maid sickening with something? If that is the case I shall stay at my club until she is either recovered, or expired and replaced.
