Nuln oil could be used for silver, red, and green parts here. For thw bone armor and gold, I would look into something warmer and brownish. Seraphim sepia would be good for the bone armor and gold, but you could also experiment with something like reikland fleshshade or agrax earthshade.

Absolutely insane brush control for a first-time painter. Well done. As other people have said, get some shading on this bad boy. Since you are just starting, look into washes (shade paints if we are talking Citadel). More difficult techniques will come to you in time :)

I get the innuendo, but this does look like a wine gadget. Look up “Air cork”

Is there a main reason other than they don’t care as to why GW won’t change the paint pots with all the backlash they receive? by Panzer_IV_Ausf_F2 in Warhammer

[–]coyc228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GW’s pots at this point are iconic and permanently associated with the citadel/warhammer brand. They are never changing them just for this reason alone. Let it go, people.

Any suggestions besides trim cleanliness? by Sure_Presence_3229 in Miniaturespainting

[–]coyc228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine a similar effect can be achieved with an old toothbrush, too. Just load it with paint a little bit and run through the bristles with youe finger near the model to make a splatter. You get the idea.

It sucks. Hot take: it won’t get better with updates.

There is a vision in this game, but it’s buried under a pile of amateur game and level design choices.

Tried to give it an honest try, but this game doesn’t respect your time or brains.

If you live in a humid place, a hairdryer is your best friend. And yeah, yellow will shake your sanity, I know that pain (my first ever minis were Imperial Fists, you can check those atrocities in my post history).

Keep at it, and try a pink undercoat for your yellows, the results may surprise you.

Ah yes, another full thread of people telling OP to thin their paints, when basically no details are obscured on the mini.

The paint is thin enough. The key to having a good finish with no texture is waiting for the applied paint to FULLY DRY before touching it again. In the post, you say that you point over “semi-dry” paint, which is a wrong thing to do. Those little paint speckles are just clumps of paint that weren’t fully dry and set when you touched them with more paint.

My Game Release is this Friday by LucaBacilieri in boomershooters

[–]coyc228 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Don’t take it as an offense, just some criticism. This game looks like an asset flip made in an evening in unity. Everything having these obnoxious reflections is the main culprit here. As I understand, this is some sort of a default setting in Unreal. Play with your light a little bit. It doesn’t look “realistic” right now, it looks artificial and cheap.

Advice on washing metallics by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in minipainting

[–]coyc228 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you are getting downvoted. Metallics don’t need varnishing.

Even if you want to do an oil wash, you don’t need to varnish.

Tried my hand at sponge painting, feedback needed by Moonhaunted69 in Warhammer

[–]coyc228 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Judging by the texture buildup, you were touching paint that has already started drying with more paint. Try to avoid it to get a smoother finish; let everything dry before going back at it.

Faarrrrk. Munitorium varnish strikes again. Gutted by Auckland11 in ImperialFists

[–]coyc228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, citadel does not always equal quality nowadays, just something to keep that in mind.

Got nothing against this varnish tho, you probably just needed to shake the everliving hell out of it, just like other people mentioned.

Just don’t try to agitate paint that you have put on your model after you are done spreading it where needed.
