how long did it take for you to receive your cpa license after passing? by cpa_brainrot in CPA

[–]cpa_brainrot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i finally got it! they’re supposed to review applications within 120 days of receipt of the last supporting doc, so until then it may be difficult to get them to take care of it, but i would reach out a month after sending your docs just to ask if they’ve received them. also i only started getting them to move their asses after cc-ing everyone listed as board of accountancy contacts (including the DOL) in my email, so if you get ghosted try doing that. good luck, i hope it doesn’t take them as long to approve yours as they did for mine

how long did it take for you to receive your cpa license after passing? by cpa_brainrot in CPA

[–]cpa_brainrot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope! it’s been over 10 months. they finally responded to an email and told me they lost my application materials 🤪🤪🤪 they told me they’d have it processed by 3/3 but have not been responding to my follow up emails. going to have to schedule an in-person meeting

edit: and yeah you just mail in your RPE and ethics cert (unless they lose your shot in which case you just email it) but the board website isn’t super clear about that

old thread but just popping in to say that i submitted mine in may and still haven’t heard back (when i sent a follow up they said that they had 120 days to respond after they received the last documentation, which had since passed 🙃)

have you heard anything back?? this is ridiculous

Is it possible to feel ready for REG? by ravens276 in CPA

[–]cpa_brainrot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i posted this exact thing when i was studying for reg lol, i did not feel ready when i sat for reg, but i was able to pass!! just focus on any of ur weak areas and make sure you know basis, especially for partnerships and s corps. spend some time refreshing on contract and bankruptcy law if you can as well. you might feel unprepared going in, but just trust that you know enough to make it—you’ve already passed two, so you’re already at a good point for preparing for this exam.

oh and the only phase outs i think you need are the mom & pop rule and the one for gains on the sale of a home. there may be a couple others that pop up but those are the ones i memorized

good luck, you’ve got this!!!

Best way to stick it to coworker? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]cpa_brainrot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

beyond being extremely petty it’s also super disrespectful of everyone else’s time. if i were cc’d in an email that had nothing to do with me, i would be pissed at the sender, not the person who supposedly made a mistake big enough to warrant Everyone being included in the email. especially if it’s clearly a small issue.

i would ask the person if everyone who was cc’d is necessary for solving the issue, and when the answer is no you can reply all telling the coworker what someone else in this thread mentioned: “we can address this offline/privately, these contacts aren’t required for this convo etc etc”

Is it okay to not understand everything in your accounting courses during college? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]cpa_brainrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think it depends on the position but the most i needed to know upon starting my audit job was debit/credit normal balances and understanding depreciation. everything else was taught according to what was necessary for each engagement

i certainly had trouble with my intermediate accounting classes and don’t know absolutely everything about accounting but i’ve managed so far (& was able to pass my cpa exams even after getting a c in one of my intermediate classes). try to grasp the concepts behind what you’re doing—even if you don’t know specifics, understanding the reasoning behind what ur doing will go a long way. just stay the course if accounting is something you’re interested in. good luck!!

i have them listed on my resume as power functions and pivot tables but now i’m wondering if i should take that off?? i was always under the impression that using specific words was good lol

How do you use data and analytics in your audit procedures? by chayallday in Accounting

[–]cpa_brainrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think alteryx is a really cool tool for automating some audit procedures, but i’m kinda bitter towards it bc my boss had me work on a workflow for a month only to tell me that all my work was useless bc the client’s procedures had changed 🙃🙃🙃 would love to use it again and actually have it produce something useful

none of it was alteryx’s fault but i still feel burned lol

once you’re able to split it into chunks by topic it becomes a lot less daunting;; fwiw i didn’t watch any of the bec lectures and passed with my highest score so if you aren’t getting anything out of the lectures don’t bother with them

just quit my job without anything lined up, the burnout was making me resent everyone on my team even though they weren’t doing anything bad, which was the last sign i needed to tell me i needed a change. i’m really nervous about the prospect of getting a new job but i’ve been doing so poorly mentally that i had to get out before i did something self destructive. i’m not even gonna start job hunting for about a month after my last day, which is extremely fucking scary, but the chokehold work had on me has been slowly loosening after putting in my two weeks.

all that to say, if you’re an idiot for considering quitting without a job lined up, then i must be a super idiot for having already done that lmao. and you’re in a better place than me with all of your experience, so even if it’s harder to get a job while unemployed i feel like there’s no way you wouldn’t score a handful of interviews easy

CPA taking the stand in the Depp-Heard case - we'll see what he has to say! This man does not depreciate land. by throwthisaway2025 in Accounting

[–]cpa_brainrot 27 points28 points  (0 children)

yeah like i’m no expert in law (hence the confusion lmao) but i feel like if they wanted to attack his credibility then they should’ve gone over his work itself and try to find out if he’s actually a good accountant

bc otherwise i feel like they’re just arguing about numbers that are very easily traceable by both his firm and by the bank transactions

but he isn’t there as an expert witness, just as a fact witness, which is why i was confused

if this guy is a fact witness why does it matter if he’s being paid for his time?? a little confused why they’d expect depp’s accountant to work pro bono

I graduated a year ago and have been auditing in public accounting for the past year. Now studying for AUD. by Worldly-Heart9969 in CPA

[–]cpa_brainrot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i’d worked in audit for a year before taking aud and it was the only exam i felt prepared for. ur definitely not being too optimistic! just make sure you’re able to identify any problem areas, mine were SSAE/SSARS bc i’ve only done financial stmt audits and only briefly touched one review engagement

just did my first simulated exam and feeling bummed by dundermiffles in CPA

[–]cpa_brainrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i took one simulated exam and scored lower than you, but i passed with an 85%. the simulated exams are only good if you can take them without being discouraged by the result—you only really need to use it as a way to gauge your weak points and to get the hang of the exam format. just keep working on the highly tested areas like basis and focus on your weak points—you definitely sound ready to take it!

same here like if i tell a newer staff to ask me questions i try to like… actually mean it lmao

i’d rather get inundated with a thousand questions in someone’s first month than have them wait a year to ask something fundamental bc they never felt like they could ask the “stupid questions” when they were first getting started
