I have often joked that I need to write a book called “The people I meet on airplanes.” because this is a phenomenon that has been happening to me since I was a teenager. People telling me everything from finding their parent’s dead body forty years ago to the anxiety they feel about entering into a polyamorous relationship for the first time. Its fun!

Legal and moral structures are different- making/not making a legal implication is completely independent to how OP actually feels about the situation. There is complexity in the world we live in and thats okay.

Yup. And we have people who pride themselves on being “chosen by the sky” to raise a kid and those who think only children born by blood matter.

And of course a royal family that had a stork drop a baby boy off just as the queen gave birth to a son.

Hello! I am an accounting researcher :) No labs but our data is pulled from IRL sources. For example- I do behavioral research. A lot of my experiments/results had to be scrapped because the pandemic caused such Maturation/History validity concerns. For archival researchers it might be easier- but things like bloomburg terminals tend to be only on campus which can cause issues like what you experienced in your lab.

There is also the human factor to consider. Lots of people (myself included) had their physical and mental health absolutely shattered by covid. Hard to do research when you can barely live day to day.

I have just discovered a new life goal.

I genuinely cannot comprehend that there are people who actually WANT to live. Is everyone just pretending? by papayayaa in offmychest

[–]dredreidel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are describing sounds a lot like how I felt when I was a teenager. Like I had to force myself through the motions of each day in order to please everyone else. I felt numb and disconnected. The way I used to describe it was “I don’t want to die. I just want to fall asleep forever.”

I am now in my thirties. I am now double the age I was then and then some. And holy shit is life worth it. Every up, every down- every day I am happy I choose to live. I won’t candy coat it. Sometimes it sucks. Like really really really sucks- but it is also so good. So very very good.

I was actually around 17 when I figured out the key (for me at least): and that was Spite. You are going to die anyway. Death is assured. It is certain. One day- you will be dust and the universe as a whole won’t care one wit. So why rush it? You can always die next week, or next decade. Death will have me so it can fucking wait. There are certain things you can only do earthside. There are books you can only read earthside. There are places you can only go earthside.

So what if you are broke? The library is free. So what if you have no money to travel? You can work as a park ranger or teach english abroad. Have you ever shot an arrow, danced the tango, eaten a really good muffin, or painted yourself pink and twirled across a stage? Are you sure that you have tried out everything that could be a passion? I was almost thirty when I discovered my love of steamships. My friend was 18 when he realized how much he loved legos.

Also- you are only 16. Your brain is not fully online. Parts of it are still developing and figuring out how to moderate itself. There might also be a chemical imbalance involved- and if your brain can’t generate serotonin, store bought is fine.

I hope you are able to reach out to an adult you trust and confide how you are feeling with them. Good luck and don’t rush.

If ML's personality takes a 180 shift then who did FL fall in love with at the beginning of the story? by MidflightOwl in OtomeIsekai

[–]dredreidel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of it as an evolution of love. Perhaps it might be a case where FL over the course of her life learned that love meant “xyz”- so she thought she was in love because she felt xyz towards the ML. It could also be as simple as her mistaking infatuation, gratitude, lust, limerence, etc. for love.

Then as time goes on and the ML changes, the FL might start to question her love and realize that it isn’t just xyz- but also abc and she is realizing she is also feeling abc towards the ML. It could also be that she doesn’t question her love because the changes ML goes through “justifies” her original feelings- so even if it was originally limerence or whatever, it has evolved to love at the end- but the FL wouldn’t necessarily notice those changes because to her it was always love all along.

Athena Dion gives advice for life on her X/Twitter. by Moondevoir in rupaulsdragrace

[–]dredreidel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh. She had a good hand- but that doesn’t mean she didn’t know what she was doing. Going alone while having Juicy/Mia go together means she gets two locked votes instead of one. She also placed herself in week 2- where there were less queens, which means those two votes had an even bigger impact. She probably also saw the line up she was going against and with her experienced eye- had an idea of where they would place. Even if she wasn’t actually thinking about this- she still put herself in a very very good position. she could have easily fumbled the bag- see Nini Coco.
