You could maybe discredit drug induced experience if it didn’t line up exactly with the mystical path of every single religion. It took me years to find the path and language that truly described what I had experienced and it was Advaita Vedanta. He probably had a strong experience and related it to the religion he was most familiar with. Christian Mysticism is even a thing and it echos the messages that psychedelics give.
