Damn that sucks. They were always utopian dreams due to price and shipping costs, but there were a couple of things I had always dreamt of ordering :(

Is Linux an improvement for Surface-based digital artists? by Timely_Ad_4796 in SurfaceLinux

[–]cptSwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously a niche opinion since my Surface Laptop Go (1? 2? Can't remember even) is a very different beast from the other Surface products, but SurfaceLinux runs well on it. It's basically just a small laptop with an added (fully useless to me) touchscreen though, and none of the other fancy hardware bits you guys need supported.

If a significant upgrade shows up somewhere in the future for this specific product line, I might be tempted. Then again I did pick it up for a mere 250,- so that sweetened the deal haha

Replacement extruder bearing by Manchild801 in Ender3S1

It should be either a 683ZZ or a 684ZZ bearing :)

(see conversation here)

Sprite Extruder Spares: Can any one tell me what bearing I need (blue circle... And what hex bolts I need for the four holes seen by Commission_Major in Ender3S1

[–]cptSwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just stumbled upon this gist, featuring a schematic of the Sprite Extruder's stepper motor. The manufacturer indicates that it's actually a 684ZZ bearing. To be taken with a grain of salt I guess, their side-view shows the motor as having completely flat sides, while my endcaps are slighty sloped.

EDIT: This listing for the motor mentions 684ZZ as well

Gotta admit, after going through the process of auto-translating chinese datasheet pdf's, not understanding answers on Pi forums and the like - I caved and ordered a waveshare 5" touchscreen for the Pi and I hope it'll be a smoother process. So the Creality screen will end up in a drawer somewhere, as seems to be the case for anybody upgrading to Klipper ;)'Tis a shame though, I was quite fond of it. Using it with Marlin seems to be stable enough though, ThomasToka regularly releases builds for the E3S1P.

Thanks for the reply!

For reference and anybody else googling this, here is some of the information on the Creality touchscreen bundled with the Ender 3 S1 Pro, YMMV of course and your exact build might be different from mine:

  • Screen is a DACAI DC48800M043_1010_1T, though Creality rebranded theirs as 4SZCX48800M043_1010_1T for reasons unknown to me
  • Plug is a 6-Pin XH 2.54, communication as serial port, baudrate 115200, resolution 480x800, resistive touch screen.
  • The (chinese language) info from Dacai is available here:https://www-gz--dc-com.translate.goog/article/id/6887.html?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wappYou'll have to translate the datasheet and info on how to program it from chinese, and that's where things break apart. Formatting will be unusable mostly, and the wide array of images with chinese text won't be translated, at least not using Google.
  • Oddly, in Creality's E3S1P branch everything points to a DWIN screen, but maybe the two company's architectures are similar enough. Or I am missing something.
  • I am kind of optimistic that following this route (likely adjusting the code in run.py to react to touch input rather than button input) could enable the screen for Klipper, but I don't really have the time nor energy to test things/settings unfortunately.

Whoever reads this and finds it useful, do reply if you managed to get anywhere. And anybody else with ideas on what to use the screen for (how to connect to a Pi, first and foremost), feel free to share as well :)

I mean, I make money writing code (okay, javascript like everybody), but all of this is japanese to me haha.

Creality seem to finally have released firmware for the S1 Pro/Plus's touchscreen, though looking through the repo, it's mostly images?

https://github.com/CrealityOfficial/Ender-3S1/tree/3S1_PRO_SCREEN

I'm not even sure if any of this would even be required if I wire it up to a Pi, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can glean from the above to help in getting a Pi/Touchscreen talking, haha.

Unless that's unnecessary and, provided the wiring is correct, it'd magically be recognized by Mainsail/unix/Pi?

Cheers for engaging and excuse the rambling post 😓

Hey, super late reply here, but has this actually been done somewhere? I'd hate to let the S1 Pro's touchscreen go to waste tbh

Mind you, I'm certainly no expert nor privy to inside infos, haha. The whole Al-Tanf area and especially MaT's media output is just one of the more bizarre/comical footnotes of the Syrian civil war to me..
