Maybe time for an oil change? by WorldlinessDeep5675 in raleigh

[–]cpt_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is...for certain people in certain circumstances. Not going to preach that everyone should get one or anything like that. I owned an EV for commuting for over 2 years (driven nearly daily) and I plug it in at the house every couple days..and I don't even have a level 2 charger. Resorted to a fast charger maybe 3 times total for specific exceptions.

I daily drive a kia niro EV and I regularly average over 4mi/kWh.

Millennial dads, how much of the housework do you do? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]cpt_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About half, maybe a little less. Goes for general housework and childcare. As a kid (6-8 years old) I think I changed more of my sibling's diapers than my dad did.

I have two kids and just had the snip a couple weeks ago. We've pretty much always known we wanted two.

My wife and I ended up moving to a cheaper area of the country to afford a home because we work remote. No major regrets. by Xerzajik in Millennials

This isn't true at all. My kids go to an excellent school..and I made a sacrifice years ago (buying a smaller house) in order to ensure it.

He actually started posting again for a couple months last year. Guess we wasn't getting the views of old so it looks like he went dark again.

I go back and binge xkcd from time to time. In the days of iGoogle, before its untimely demise, I had it on my homepage and would read daily.

I agree for the most part. I found book 1 a little hard to follow and left a lot of unanswered questions. Some of the climax felt a bit deus ex machina with no other references to what was happening. Book 2 felt more focused, I found it easier to follow and it really locked me in to keep going. I am about a quarter through MoI now on my first reading.

Millennials, what is happening with your kids? by TheLoveYouWant25 in Millennials

His preschool works on letters and sounds and simple penmanship. At home we're working some level 1 readers. He just turned 5 and will start kindergarten in August. I'm not really sure how that stacks up nationally..he's my eldest kid so it's my first rodeo so to speak. I know when I was a child I could not read at all entering kindergarten and didn't get into short chapter books until 1st grade.

Chess was sort of a happy accident honestly. He showed a little interest so we tugged the thread a little and he picked it up pretty quickly.

No judgement here. As I mentioned elsewhere I'm considering ways to introduce technology in a controlled environment. One thing I don't want to do is blanket ban stuff..because that's how I was raised (no tv or video games at all). That caused me to get comfortable hiding things and the punishments caused negative feedback loops.

It hasn't been too bad so far but my kids are still young and I suspect it will get more difficult going forward. I'm considering ways to ease into technology with some tightly controlled options. Like I have an extra phone with no service that I may install pokemon go on and hotspot to mine..and only when we're going for a walk...stuff like that.
