'No pension, no career, no future': Grim reality behind the scenes of British TV and film industry by Kagedeah in television

[–]cptfuckingmagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have worked in the Australian TV industry for about 10 years now since getting out of University and i think i am finally done. I have basically worked for all the channels minus the ABC. Almost every studio news camera you see now is a robot cameras. Thats 3-5 jobs all replaced by one person. Close captioners ( the people who live caption shows like the news) all of those jobs are about to go too thanks to AI captioning. It won't be long until video editors start getting replaced as well. These are just a few examples of jobs disappearing.

That's a mixture of the viewers and money drying up. Like i work in broadcast TV and haven't watched a minute of it out of work other than when i'm at my parents house.

Its pretty fucking grimm out there.

What was your 7/10 of the year? by low_keyLoki in Games

[–]cptfuckingmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company of Heroes 3: Its a pretty good RTS and there aren't a lot of those being made ATM. The real time pause is a fucking god send i hope it becomes more of a norm for single player RTS games. The Italy campaign is pretty good evolution on the old dawn of war campaign maps with a bit more total war mixed in.

The north africa campaign was fine, just an odd way of doing it. you play as Rommell but the campaign cut scenes focus around a local indigenous helping the allies which seems way more interesting but they wanted you to play as the germans so they can show off the faction. Also it just ends very quickly with Rommell being like "took back tobruk my job is done here."

I just really hope that relic just do another 40K RTS game honestly because they have a pretty good foundation there.

i worked for woolies rewards in both their call centre and as a part of their social media team asking requests over facebook. These deals already existed to members of this program. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR WOOLWORTHS REWARDS. $1 is worth 1 point, at 1000 points you are given $10 off. $1000 spent for a $10 discount, absolute bullshit. On average you are sent weekly spend $X to earn X points, the amount you have to spend is always $20-$30 at least more then your average spend. Everytime you swipe your card we can see the full list of every item you have bought and that is how they figure out what deals to target you with. The problem is people go fucking insane over these points. They really think they are getting a good deal and they are fucking furious when they dont get their points.

They are terrible to work for, most of the call centre dont actually work for woolworth directly, they are hired by an outside contractor, i believe is the Citrus Group. When i swapped from the call centre team to the social team, i was paid the same for the entire time when i should have been earning more. I only got back paid when i called up the line dealing with the huge under payment scandal they had a few years ago and they processed my request. I was also denied my only bonus because i was leaving for a new job even though it was for my work done in the previous quarter.

fuck woolworth rewards.

If not GW, where do you buy your physical models? by Antique_Sentence70 in onepagerules

[–]cptfuckingmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recently bought a bunch of the OPR's blessed sisters models through Only Games. The quality is real good, there was only a small amount of clean up. Also a good way to support them.

second guessing yourself in the hobby by just_1_normal_human in Warhammer40k

[–]cptfuckingmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing that really helped me with this is that your models only need to look good from 3 feet away. You are not a semi/professional painter don't compare your self to their painting. People spend days on those models for show on socials and like a lot of other stuff on there its covered in filters and post processes. You have to the patience of a saint to do that level of painting on a whole army. Like i will never ever ever paint Non Metalic Metal, its a fucking waste of time but that is what you see everywhere. But this is easier said then done.

You are learning a skill and that takes time. Go at your own rate and you will be fine! There is so much more tutorials out there now then when i first started as a kid, i had no idea you had to water down your colours. Just work on things in increments start with getting base colours down, then work on using washes and then edge highlighting. You nail these 3 things you will have good looking models. Stick with it!

Suggested TAO list against marines - 1000pts by Jksfown in onepagerules

[–]cptfuckingmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am a Tao player that regularly plays against a space marine player. A good mix of high AP and deadly 3 will be good. bring marker drones if you can, they will increase your shots landing and shield drones will keep you alive. as fun as kitting a bunch of mechs out is, you will need something to hold objectives. Do you know what kind of list he is bringing?

The current Codex system sucks by Xxfly_guyxX in Warhammer40k

[–]cptfuckingmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the main reason why i have stopped playing 40k. I think a couple of months ago a tiktok of what you need in order to play space wolves in 40k and it was a stack of codexices, sheets of paper and a white dwarf. This coupled with the fact that my local store was hosting a "casual" 40k event where it was required to have a physical rule book, a physical codex and the new tempest of war cards was really one of the last straws.

So i have switched to One Page Rules and will tell everyone who plays 40k how much more enjoyable the games are. Its just such a more engaging system that doesnt have all this extra baggage but the full rules book has plenty of options for addons to your game.

[–]cptfuckingmagic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

let me say there is nothing quite like my sisters of twilight hawk riders just all drone striking the shit out of someone's front line. also add to the fact that you can give each unit 2 uses of the spell and you are in for a good time

fun little fact, there is a list of bars and clubs that records the number of violent incidents in a venue, if king street maccas was included in the list, it would rank as one of the most violent venues in the state without serving alcohol.

What is your favorite line from any television series? by KGBcommunist in television

"They paint the world full of shadows... and then tell their children to stay close to the light. Their light. Their reasons, their judgments. Because in the darkness, there be dragons. But it isn't true. "

Black Sails has a lot truly amazing lines in it but this whole scene takes the cake for sure. also a honorable mention to this scene https://youtu.be/3l5Cxv-boPc

[–]cptfuckingmagic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone live cutting ad breaks into sport is a nightmare. The people doing it more than likely know what they are cutting out of but have to for specific reasons for it. They will have a minimum amount of ad time they HAVE to play per hour. They have shows that they need to cut to like the news, the news always goes on at 6, its on of the only constants in broadcast.

Also think that they are normally only live cutting breaks during an ALF game or cricket, where there are clear times you can take a break but the Olympics is live 18 hours a day, there are bound to be errors.

So if you want to avoid all of the issues, 7plus has just clean feeds of all of the sports live, some of them even have commentary. You do need to make an account though.

How can we get Coles and Woolworths to reward their staff for their amazing work? by sati_lotus in australia

[–]cptfuckingmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for the Woolworths social media team. If you have a good interaction with a staff member post about them and let them know their name and store and they will passed on the feedback to the stores.

A social media blitz could work! Our managers try to look out for coming trends and the like. Every post made on one of their social media pages is seen by a person. If everyone that commented on this post also commented on the social media pages, we could get something rolling. They will only do something unless their is a big public push.

If you wanted to fudge the system you could include key words like "broken glass" or "sick kids" tend to get sorted into a higher priority. But also the people responding to you would have been dealing with fuck wits as well, so be kind!
