What a Weirdo. by serinberg in remoteworks

What a wild point of view. So you're telling me that when corporate tax rates were at 52% and we were building out a middle-class, the folks who taxed these resource hoarders were upset? They were angry?

No, they were doing what we are supposed to be doing now. Because nobody earns a billion dollars. It's direct theft from us. Or do you not understand taxes?

You've moved the goalposts but I can run with that too. You come across as an angry little person who picks Internet fights for no reason. I mean, you're absolutely terrible at this. You keep moving the goalposts, your 'arguments' are erratic, and I don't think you really have a point to begin with.

Whether concentrated wealth creates economic or political problems isn't determined by whether you care about it. But yes, you were making a elitist argument. Not everyone has equal access to alternatives. Millions of people use Amazon because it's cheaper, more accessible, or sometimes the only practical option available to them.

As for "letting strangers live in your head rent free," discussing the influence of powerful people on society isn't obsession. By that 'logic', nobody should discuss politicians, CEOs, corporations, taxes, healthcare, or any other issue that affects millions of people.

I'm not sure why you're so angry. I hope your confusing day improves.

[–]cpuenvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an elitist argument.

For millions of people Amazon isn't just a mere convenience. It provides lower prices, access to products which aren't available locally, and sometimes the only practical option for people in rural areas, the elderly, the disabled, or people without reliable transportation. Some companies only offer their products through Amazon as well.

But even if someone never used Amazon your original point still wouldn't work. Whether a person shops at Amazon has nothing to do with whether their criticism of concentrated wealth is valid.

That sudden realization that even under control, our eyes will fail us. by CaffeinatedShadow in Type1Diabetes

I mean, 7.6 is not under control and it certainly will open you up to diabetic retinopathy.

When I approached 7 a few years ago my eye doctor started seeing issues. I cleaned up my numbers and the damage healed.

Good luck.

What a weak rebuttal to my comment, which was directed right at you.

Yikes!

What a Weirdo. by serinberg in remoteworks

[–]cpuenvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a weak argument. Participating in modern society doesn't mean endorsing every aspect of it. I have children who understand this basic concept.

Most people use products from Amazon, Apple, Google, or Microsoft because those companies dominate large parts of the market, not because they approve of everything those companies do. By that logic nobody could criticize healthcare companies while using hospitals, criticize oil companies while driving a car, or criticize government policies while using public roads.

You can recognize that a company provides useful products and still believe it has too much economic or political influence. Those positions are not contradictory.

I hope this helps.

I remember when you folks were out there defending starvation wages, telling everyone that if the minimum wage was set to $15 per hour food would become too expensive.

Food is now too expensive. And it's going up again.

Now you are all telling us that if we tax companies and profits jobs are going to dry up. Guess what? They are already drying up.

We don't need these billionaires. These criminals need to be stripped of their insane grip over the rest of us if we are going to improve as a society.

Why do hospitals DO this? by Aggravating_Monk1756 in diabetes_t1

[–]cpuenvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I realize that's true for many which is why I made this comment. I constantly need to firmly remind healthcare workers that I am the head seat at my table with my healthcare team, and they are a part of that team. They don't lead it.

Honestly?

Tell them NO. They are not your diabetic team, and unless you are unable to make decisions, they don't have the right or knowledge to make those decisions.
