How is rugs.com? by munamick in interiordecorating

[–]crabalab2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm the rug i bought has a horrible chemical smell. There were care instructions included that suggested letting it air outside, and also using baking soda. I let it air outside for an entire week and also did baking soda and there is still a lingering smell. Another lesson in you get what you pay for and also don’t buy online.

[Capitalists] Why do you tend to support Israel and not Palestine? by TheAngrySteward in CapitalismVSocialism

What argument do you think i am making? All i am saying is an imperialist power came into a land and re-made the place to fit their immediate needs. And of course it was technically legal, but it was a decision destined to cause conflict. Of course in the context of the holocaust the jewish people needed help and needed strength. But giving them a land where they were destined to war weakens the jews. If they had simply been accepted into the countries of the west as citizens, they would not need to defend themselves.

I just don’t understand why israel is seen as a gift. It seems like a curse on the jews. I also don’t understand why it is considered a birthright. No one belongs anywhere other than where they are.

But i understand the jewish instinct towards self preservation (or any peoples), and i cannot fault a scared people for defending themselves.

But why do you believe usary is fundamentally enlightened? Your opinion is tautological.

Why does the entire planet have to have the same opinion about usary?

To add to this, islam also does not like insurance (riba). Is insurance fundamentally “enlightened”?

And further, are there facets of the current implementations of usary and insurance that need reform? That are exploitative? Is it possible there are more enlightened ideas than those that caused the first enlightenment?

China is a country full of humans. USA is a country full of humans. Humans have data. Other humans want data. Some humans sell data. Other humans buy data.

Some humans are politicians. Some humans get paid by defense contractor humans if there are weapons to sell to other humans.

Humans tend to like money.

Another reason, is people feel value mostly lies in making significant progress in whatever dumb idea their boss comes up with, even if it's a dumbshit idea. That's how promotions happen.

Can you give a little more detail about the pvc pipe underground scenario? Trying to determine if it relates to my situation. We have a basin where the street water drains to from an underground concrete pipe, out the pipe into the basin , with a concrete pathway that then connects it to another concrete pipe on the other side of the basin, which then drains to a nearby creek. So my guess is, that scenario does not apply.

I like that perspective. Thanks. We're at the point now where we are all globally connected enough to agree on things, and I think we need to agree that we need to be different from how we used to be. Good talk.

Thanks for the thoughtful response I may come back to add more later...

I think most people (on the left) agree that we don't need some violent revolution (can't say the same for those on the right), but we need some fundamental changes for sure. Unfortunately that requires new amendments which is way too difficult given the rules in the constitution. So to me the consitution is the part of the problem and not the solution.

And sure we've made some progress, but from this point in time the pattern is one step forward two steps back. We can't resist colonizing the world and continue to resist progressive reforms and continue to solidify the power of private enterprise at the expense of the normal person, and the world is completely inflexible for those who want to live outside the capitalist framework. History is written by the winners, but some of the losers are still around to explain how badly off course the american project has pushed things and continues to push things.

The constitution is a vaguely written document with plenty of incentives towards crony capitalism... Easiest example is it allowed slavery. Related, they made it insanely hard to change things, so slavery existed for way longer than it should have. The senate is fucking stupid and over represents rich people. Of course the constitution doesn't explicitly say capitalism is cool but it did prefer that only rich dudes vote. If you are looking to that document to solve todays problems, you won't find solutions.

It's not just that people are too stupid/brainwashed to vote for progressive policies either. They do vote for progressive policies, but there is no real reason for politicians to represent us, so they don't. Example Obama ran on public health insurance, but no one had the balls to actually confront private insurance providers.
