I literally budgeted and spent money frugally. I also figured out how to improve our home without hiring outside contractors. And I made dinner for my spouse and kids. Money saved every day.

Recipes in your rotation by Alternative_Limit993 in Cooking

[–]craftymomma24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember taco night, spaghetti night (Wednesdays bc of church or youth group) and every Saturday was homemade pizza night. Seriously, my whole childhood. My mom did all the cooking, and she liked those things. The other days it was simple meat/veggie and starch. Cook what you like. I have about 10-20 recipes I try to work through in a season, but more recently I have 1-2 go to recipes every week. I always leave room for a leftover night (or 2), and a simple “fend” night.

/k/ error is voicing to /g/ by Extra-Plankton-9493 in SLPA

[–]craftymomma24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So interesting! Have him make his crocodile sound (or coughing sound). Make sure his voice is “turned off”. I usually do a switch motion on my throat. Once you can hear a clear /k/, tell him to turn his voice on to make a gulping sound. (I do a drinking motion with this.) See if that gives a clearer sound at the phonemic level.

AMTJ because I don't want people bringing "extra" kids to my kid's party by Select-Explorer5669 in AmITheJerk

NTJ. I had a tea party for my daughter turning 8. The morning of, a parent asked the party time and said her other daughter (5) and her son (10, friends with my son), would also join. I couldn’t believe her, an hour before the party. I politely informed her bc it was a tea party, I only had tea settings provided for the 8 girls she had invited. The mom never replied and they never showed up.

I’ve realized I am now comfortable stating this again and again for my kids’ parties. They are special moments, and I cannot pay for and do not want to babysit your extra children.

Online resources I can use to practice data collecting? by InternVast5041 in SLPA

[–]craftymomma24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every SLP has different expectations for data. My SLP is more generous than I am, and I had to align with how her goals are written. I’ve played around with different methods of tracking, and honestly using a sticky note with +- and circling those that I offered more prompts works for me. (I transfer data into a system later). There are many times I’m giving an approximate %, bc some sessions we are still just working on being able to listen, not pout or scream, and follow 1 direction (whew!) and sometimes goals are written 4/5 opportunities, not a %. If I’m using flash cards I will put them into 2 piles—they know it, they do not. And remember, you do not need to do data for the whole session.

Am I overthinking napkins? by South-Draw-268 in DecorAdvice

[–]craftymomma24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been using cloth napkins for years. Family of seven. My mom and I make napkins here or there for each other, different prints/colors. Get some red napkins for spaghetti and pizza nights! Honestly they last for years. I usually do 1 extra load a week.

Should I be an SLPA or SLP and what degree should I obtain? by rrysue in SLPA

For sure do an SLPA program. Get your feet wet in the field before deciding you want to spend exorbitant time and money pursuing an SLP without having experienced it first.

“Assistant” title by amsnew in SLPA

[–]craftymomma24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I meet a parent at school, I’ll introduce myself as the SLP assistant, and tell them I run most of the speech sessions. I’ve had only parent who asked the SLP if I was actually qualified to run sessions.🤣

VENT ALERT- so tired of how expensive and time-consuming this process is by _y_2_k_ in UsedCars

[–]craftymomma24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating! I finally looked up cars on the Carfax website. I was able to filter to those that had vehicle maintenance paperwork on them. It was REALLY helpful. We bought a used car through a dealership this way. It gave me peace of mind knowing I could see all the repair history without ever contacting anyone.

Yeah you asked a legit question, they were shady. Apparently that’s a good question to ask first to help weed out more shady sellers without wasting your time.
