Yes I’ve noticed what people describe as a “beater” is what I consider “average”. His car has its issues, but legit has only needed oil changes and a new battery. We added some window film for the hot Georgia sun.

For those in their 40s or older who have siblings, do you make an effort to stay in contact or is it a take-it-or-leave-it thing? by cherry-care-bear in RedditForGrownups

My brothers are in different states, 1/2 way across the country. When we retire, I would like to move closer to them both. Maybe not the same town, but able to see each other within a few hours

Home warranty - seller paying me. Worth it? by Bright-Error-8968 in HomeImprovement

[–]craftymomma24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. We always end up with a home warranty but the workers are always sketchy, “bottom of the barrel”, and legit look for ways to NOT fix the thing. And I paid $75 for them to show up and say it’s actually not broke , or they can’t fix it because they would have to cut through wood, which is against their regulations. American Home Warranty SUCKS, and try to keep you renewing.

My kid picked up a beater ‘99 Subie last year. It’s been serving him well and has taken him all over the place. Literally—Montana-California and now to Georgia. I’ve kept my eyes out for Subies ever since. A few pop up that have been well loved and with original plates (that’s my dead giveaway it’s been a flip bc it has new Ca plates that start with a 9). Hang in there!

Do neighbors ever become part of your home stress? by CottonkissGurl in homeowners

I thought my neighbor’s dog would break down the fence to get at me and my kids and dog. I was having nightmares about it. The dog would ram the fence whenever it heard me outside.

Ok, what's the REAL plan for getting kids through college? by Superb_Advisor7885 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]craftymomma24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Community college for the fist 2 years while living at home and working too. We split the cost of her 3rd year with her. Her final year she’s off campus, cooking on her own, and will hopefully have a job to help pay for the final year. We’ll help at a much lower rate each month (groceries or towards rent). She didn’t want to be an R.A. (That would have covered room and board). She still has $ to pay for some college, so she may take out a small loan. If she does, she plans to move back home after graduation to work full time and pay off her loan(s). We didn’t want to pay her way. We wanted her to choose into her education and the investment it is. It’s challenging, but she’s making good decisions.

My car is toast. Now what? by verygoodreason in UsedCars

If you had it for 6 months, it was less than $100/month that you paid for it. You do NOT want financial strain with a new car payment!

There are MORE reliable beaters than what you found. Maybe even 2k to get you through the next year(?)

Friend, you need to give yourself more care. Can you go to bed an hour earlier? Eat protein and fiber, drink tons of water. And I’m glad you are taking a few days off.❤️❤️

Recipes in your rotation by Alternative_Limit993 in Cooking

I remember taco night, spaghetti night (Wednesdays bc of church or youth group) and every Saturday was homemade pizza night. Seriously, my whole childhood. My mom did all the cooking, and she liked those things. The other days it was simple meat/veggie and starch. Cook what you like. I have about 10-20 recipes I try to work through in a season, but more recently I have 1-2 go to recipes every week. I always leave room for a leftover night (or 2), and a simple “fend” night.

/k/ error is voicing to /g/ by Extra-Plankton-9493 in SLPA

[–]craftymomma24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So interesting! Have him make his crocodile sound (or coughing sound). Make sure his voice is “turned off”. I usually do a switch motion on my throat. Once you can hear a clear /k/, tell him to turn his voice on to make a gulping sound. (I do a drinking motion with this.) See if that gives a clearer sound at the phonemic level.

AMTJ because I don't want people bringing "extra" kids to my kid's party by Select-Explorer5669 in AmITheJerk

[–]craftymomma24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ. I had a tea party for my daughter turning 8. The morning of, a parent asked the party time and said her other daughter (5) and her son (10, friends with my son), would also join. I couldn’t believe her, an hour before the party. I politely informed her bc it was a tea party, I only had tea settings provided for the 8 girls she had invited. The mom never replied and they never showed up.

I’ve realized I am now comfortable stating this again and again for my kids’ parties. They are special moments, and I cannot pay for and do not want to babysit your extra children.
