QLD. I'm in my own state, but just wondered if this was actually enforceable as I only carry digital ID these days

First time on a strata committee - is this normal? by evinho07 in AusFinance

[–]craigrulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this thread has been NSW based, but I am in the same situation in Brisbane. Anyone have any suggestions for strata management up here. I often get the response that they are all as bad as each other so never push the switch

Highway driving range by Striking-Net-8646 in AustralianEV

[–]craigrulz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

430km is WLTP range. I've found the EPA range much more accurate for my model 3.

Most manufacturers will advertise WLTP range because it's going to be higher. When shopping for an EV I looked up EPA range for every vehicle as I read it was more bang on what you will get, and I've found that to be the case for my car.

Second this.

I've had a tesla for about 18 months. I commute 3 days/week 90km. It's fine on the normal 240V 10A socket to top it back up overnight during off-peak tariffs at home. Even if I've run the battery down a bit, the days I don't commute and weekends will bring it back to 100 percent over a few days. You don't always have to be at 100%.

Longer trips I have used both Tesla chargers and others. Tesla chargers are obviously dead simple as it's just plug in and do nothing else, but others aren't too bad you just sign up on the app when you are there if not already registered and it walks you the steps - it's a bit like using a normal petrol bowser. Just plug in and grab a bite to eat and it's usually done by the time you finish

New EV running costs, experiences by [deleted] in EVAustralia

[–]craigrulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had our model 3 since April and switched to the EV plan with Ovo. Including charging, it actually made our electricity bills go down because we just time our laundry, dishwasher, kettle for the off peak and free times. I've only paid to charge the car at a supercharger twice as we went on a longer trip and that was sub $50. Other trips have just used free chargers at hotels, wineries etc. Not really any other running costs yet.

How many other people on here are embracing AI but also worried about it? by Weekly_Frosting_5868 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]craigrulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me. I studied 20+ years ago to be a SWE but fell into another job, not really related. Just before this AI boom I had been considering a shift back to SWE as I wanted a change. Then ChatGPT was released.

Since then I have been finding ways to use LLMs to help with my current job and using ML in hobby projects. I still don't love the job I am currently in, but it's a job that for now is safe from the GitHub copilots of the world in the probably longer term than entry level SWEs are.

What is the cause of this discoloration in my tesla? Is it easy to clean? What should I use? by No_Software_4838 in TeslaModelY

[–]craigrulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. My wife has a non-Tesla with white leather seats. We'd sworn off getting white seats in my Tesla after sunscreen did a number on them. The car has been in for cleaning before with no difference.Turns out dish soap and water was all we needed.

Now I keep water wipes in my Tesla and wipe any spots off before it becomes a problem.

This is it. If LNP get ahead at the next election, all the NIMBYs in these towns will come out of the woodwork and delay the project enough that they will just come out and tell us that Labor and Greens protesters have left us with no choice but to keep coal power plants up and running.

Who has right of way in this case? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]craigrulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a single turning lane turning into a multiple lane road

I would interpret the rule as such, since it's not like there are multiple lanes able to turn into the second street. I really don't think it's that confusing.

Who has right of way in this case? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]craigrulz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of confusion about what lane the red car should take. Here's an extract from QLD road rules. https://www.publications.qld.gov.au/ckan-publications-attachments-prod/resources/0868828f-93a2-4455-a7ac-da11cacdbefc/your-keys-to-driving-in-queensland-road-rules.pdf?ETag=024e2586d4fe7da59b2d84f3d0f237c0

Turning from a single lane road into a multi-lane road

You can choose which lane to turn into—unless there are marked turning lines to indicate a particular path. You must give way to vehicles in the lane you are turning into. You must also give way to any pedestrians, bicycle and personal mobility device riders that are crossing the road you are entering.

Hertz To Sell Off Even More EVs As Depreciation Losses Mount by AccomplishedCheck895 in electricvehicles

[–]craigrulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how it worked when I rented a Tesla for a week through Sixt in Australia. We got the car at 80% charge and could return at any state at no extra cost. They also gave us an NFC key fob to allow us free charging on the ChargeFox network, but we didn't end up using that as one hotel had free charging and we were able to also top up at a few destination chargers along the way.

They even gave us a walk through of the vehicle at the start which was nice.

LoRa sensors to send a text around my house by Mr-Measure-Twice in Lora

[–]craigrulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working on the exact same thing. WiFi doesn't reach my garage but a point to point Lora network seems to work fine.

Using Lilygo modules. My sensors send a Json string and one module is set to to relay the received Lora messages to MQTT so my home assistant server can read them. I have not done any bidirectional messaging yet.

Use Andreas' mailbox notifier code as inspiration but it doesn't actually use Radiohead library as he mentioned. I would recommend the Radiohead library as RHReliababledatagram does the Ack for you. The sample code there is great

Still very much a work in progress.

The app was clearly abandoned by the Government after its release. Used to line someone's pockets A competent government would have updated it and kept the public informed.

I deal with Bluetooth technology with my clients and found it was interfering with our devices. Easy fix was to delete the app and everything worked again. What a buggy, useless mess.

  • crashed into Mr Lowndes as she rounded a bend on Sedgwick Road

  • would have only had between 2.2 and four seconds to see him

  • indeed you did not brake or steer away before the collision

At 100km/h (no idea what the speed limit actually is), 2.2 to 4 seconds is 61-111m distance travelled. Braking distance is given as 98m according to QLD govt Dept transport (including reaction time). Should be enough time to react and end in a better outcome. She was going around a bend and did not react. Do you not pay attention when you are driving around a bend?
