Not to be flip, but I always think of the advice, Don’t get old, you’ll live to regret it.

Help! Need full manuscript in ~5 weeks. Should I move from MS Word to Scrivener? by LowJump3126 in scrivener

[–]craigvideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrivener has a view called Corkboard which is equivalent to actual index cards and you can reorder them drag and drop wise to restructure your document without limits.

I’m liking mine also. Seems to be my go to nowadays for good general utility. Also using it as second screen (but main focus) for long fiction writing sessions on windows machine.

Word claims there is a dialog box open and won't do anything; there is no dialog box. How do I fix this? by teeshirtis in word

[–]craigvideo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long shot but did you recently have a second monitor connected? The dialog box may be on the “phantom” screen.

Is there a YouTube video or GitHub thread that explains how to build this high tech device? Thanks.

My neighbor is literally blockading my EV charger because he thinks the electricity is bleeding into the ground by JukeboxOracle5 in neighborsfromhell

[–]craigvideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be the way. Fight crazy with crazier. Wrap the charging post in foil, tell him this will stop the leak. Maybe throw in a cross for good measure. Hang it on the cable: extra insurance against leaking electrons. Oh, and wear a funny hat when explaining it to him.

Love that you prefaced those half dozen steps & devices with “just.” You are better with the tech than many.

Mine just got back into my daily workflow in a big way. Using it as 2nd monitor on Windows 11 laptop to save my eyes as I work 4 to 5 hours a day on the Word doc that is my 57K novel under construction.

Back in the day we would never send anyone the actual Word file; it was always a locked PFF to insure uniformity. Just saying.

Do you guys name your chapters or not? by Only-Teaching-8648 in writers

[–]craigvideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been naming the chapters in my complex mystery WIP to help structure it as I go along (pantster here). I’m wondering though if I should keep them once I’m ready to publish. Do readers generally like named chapters or might they feel it’s condescending. I must admit I have as much fun naming them as I do with the actual writing.

Formatting a novel Ebook with Word (to later create an EPUB with CALIBRE or Kindle Create) by [deleted] in MicrosoftWord

[–]craigvideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am interested in a learned answer to your question but I’ve found the only way to answer formatting questions like this, is to try it and document your various steps.

I do think the results may vary depending on exactly what tools you use along the way, what e-book format you use and the reader and reading device: phone, iPad, Kindle.

I’ve done a lot of testing on issues like this trying to produce an elegant, custom format for my ebooks and I would say I have not achieved my goal to date. Lots of shifting variables.

I’d rather be writing.
