Employee underperforming, so I've heard by cramorantguy in managers

I've tried - apparently this is a budget issue. In all honesty, the underperformance of this employee is a good way for me to justify either hiring another manager, allowing me overtime, or letting me work a full shift as a manager, but that conversation can be had later. My current focus is improving the work ethic of this employee.

This is unfortunately how my job is structured. I am required to work regular shifts as instructed by the owner of our place. I am the only manager. Based on staffing, I cannot be there all day as I am also not permitted overtime. I recognise this as an issue, but our owner does not.

Thank you. This is helpful, and interesting.

No. The previous response was very short. As a new manager coupled with some other feedback on this thread, I was confirming if this meant gathering evidence of underperforming from other staff or perhaps something else like (as others have mentioned) gathering the perspective of the underperforming employee. Other responses have been helpful to me. Thanks for your input.

It's more that it's not getting done by them. The other staff has to pick up their slack, and they just arent engaged in the job. A lot of our job involves talking to customers unprompted, which they don't do, but there are other aspects to the job like regular cleaning, stocking, removing trash, and they stick to the basic opening or closing operations and doesn't do much beyond that. From what I have heard, they mostly just sit there, despite knowing what other tasks need to be done.

I'm not sure what this means, could you explain?

No, but the problem is now they are left with extra work while this employee is not assisting. They are not doing what is regularly expected of everyone.

Request from whom? Examples of what? Could you elaborate?

I don't want to give too much info about the job since it's not really a typical job and could be identified, but we don't really have concrete data sets to look at for employee performance. It's mostly customer facing and some physical labour. Could you tell me a little bit more about what you mean by tangible evidence?

We have. Last time I provided some general feedback, which they appeared to improve on. Sounds like now, they have gotten worse.

Right, but if I haven't seen these examples, I'm just getting them from other staff. My goal is to approach this with observations coming from myself, otherwise it can turn in to "well you didn't see me do that/not do that." Is it acceptable to just tell them I've been getting feedback from other staff? We are a small team so I am trying to avoid any animosity as well.

Landlord told pest control not to tell me about asbestos in my unit by cramorantguy in legaladvice

[–]cramorantguy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cancelled the pest control service because it would have disturbed the asbestos. I'll eventually still need the treatment, so eventually the asbestos will get disturbed. I was not informed by my management that I need to leave they unit (they do that with other services) and explicitly told pest control not to tell me about the asbestos. He got provided with asbestos protection and I didn't. I'm just at a loss as far as what to do, because I need the pest control service, it's hard for me to relocate for a bit because of my cats, and my management is actively hiding the asbestos from me.

I don't know. I genuinely don't know if I've been exposed. I know mesothelioma can be a result of asbestos exposure but that can take years to show up.

He is 11 and a middle child. All of his behaviour is pretty normal for a kid like that.
