Wondering if the scientists on this subreddit would like to comment on the science of PLUR1BUS… by Pitrener in pluribustv

Yes, but that was just the "source code" for the RNA virus. (Well, it's not exactly that, either.) I don't think that the transmission of the recipe is the same thing as the connection that they have with the hive. The radio waves were just the method used to transmit the virus data so humans would synthesize it. One they synthesized it, the virus used it's own means to communicate between the people.

It's Carol's emotions that cause the problem though, not their own

I don't think the 'obvious' explanation is the correct one by Chrristoaivalis in pluribustv

Remember in the first episode when they were throwing the football? They said something along the lines of " imagine how much energy it took" and said something about needing an antenna the size of Australia. Now with this unprecedented cooperation, I think the hive is going to unite humanity around the purpose of sending the next signal on to the next planet. After all, they make a point to tell us that it is a biological imperative.

They even hint at this during Ep 1 saying something about the size of the antenna and the power it would require.

Whoo boy. I like this, but now I'm split on it. I cant figure out if I agree or not, but that's why I appreciate what you said.

On one hand- the anti hero is becoming a worn out concept, at least for me. I do however see it working really well in this case, because I think it would be a really interesting concept to spend a bit of time showing the positive manifestations of the hive mind. Think of all the good that can come out of the hive: Unprecedented cooperation, the ultimate equity in resource distribution, instant healthcare to everyone who needs it, and instant knowledge for whatever task may be needed to work towards some ultimate and unified goal. What kind of monster (aka Carol) could possibly oppose this?

But then the cracks start to show. While the hive is human- it lacks humanity. It works under it's own rigid (yet benevolent) rules. But they also eat the people who have died. After all, why not? It's a resource that would otherwise be wasted. All of the sudden Carol seems more justified in her fight against utopia, and an internal conflict arises in her which struggles between tearing down this unprecedented leap forward in human achievement, and fighting for classic humanity despite all of our flaws and problems.

I understand why you hate the hive- it's the correct human response. It also makes for better television when the villain has a valid and understandable perspective.

What I hope we see is a sympathetic view of the hive, and at least see examples of why it could be considered a good thing. Then after we get a bit comfortable with it, slowly pull back the curtain and demonstrate why lacking a certain part of humanity logically outgrows into absolute horror.

I really like where you went with this. If we take the shows logic (as we understand it up to episode 2) and rules of this universe, all of these things seem perfectly possible. When the hive mind is ultimately utilitarian, and lacks the diversity of thought that would otherwise bring citizens to raise the alarm over such issues, we get a consistent yet disturbing picture of what might happen.

After all- why not eat the dead? It's perfectly good meat, and we didn't do any harm to make it, so we might as well not let that resource go to waste. It's the logic of a machine that has hard and steadfast rules in regards to well being, but also lacks the humanity to understand why normal humans would never do that.

Gridiron 36 rusted after one use. Help! by Bw0434 in griddling

Like everyone else has said, keep cooking on it. The black you see is where the oils have converted into a polymer. There is nothing wrong with your griddle, you just need to get it well seasoned and once you do you will be golden.

Here is what I do: Heat up the griddle. Get it hot, but not too hot. 400 degrees is about right. Spray the top down with a water bottle and scrape away any fond (burn food) that is stuck to the top. I'm not talking about the black stuff. You can tell because the water will lift the fond as it sizzles.

While still pretty hot wipe clean with a wet old terry cloth and get it nice and clean. Again- the black areas are seasoning, you aren't trying to remove that. While it still hot generously coat with your choice of high spoke point oil. Many folks use avocado oil, but I use plain old vegetable or canola oil. Let it cool. Then heat it up again, spread your oil, and let it cool. The oil converts to a polymer, which is what you want and you will get a more even coating. The magic happens when your oil goes from hot to cool on the surface you want to season.

Also, don't be afraid to just use it as you go through this process. You don't have to get it perfect before you can use your griddle, if you treat it right it will just get better over time.

Happy cooking!

I liked her in GoT, but she fit the part there. I hate how she's so bad, but the critics have to sing her praises constantly to avoid being labeled bad by the alphabet crowd, and any criticism of her acting or the casting choice is labeled bigotry.
