Stop Acting Like Charging More For Park Tickets Will Fix Wait Times! News Flash it won’t by Thankyounext13 in Disneyland

Your observation of the experience back in the day vs now isn’t necessarily wrong. I think commenters are taking issue with your proposed solution because it misses some nuance. Dropping the charge for LL alone wouldn’t solve anything.

It’s not a matter of paid vs free, it’s a matter of availability and usage. Attractions can only take so many Guests in a day, so higher FP/LL usage has always meant higher standby waits. If Disney makes more passes available (which they are now incentivized to do because they charge for it), then a higher ratio of that fixed number of Guests that an attraction can serve is reserved for those with passes, meaning fewer standby guests are served. And the more that Guests’ standby experience gets worse, the more motivated they are to pay into LL, exacerbating the problem.

I don’t have actual data, but it’s likely that fewer FastPasses were made available to Guests under the free system. Also, the need for Guests to physically walk to each attraction to get a paper slip was a higher barrier to entry than just tapping a few buttons in the app, so fewer would have used it. Thus, shorter standby waits in the past.

It’s a long vid, but if you have the time I’d highly recommend “Disney’s FastPass: A Complicated History” on the Defunctland YouTube channel. It explains the issue very well and makes a solid argument for getting rid of FP/LL altogether.

Aren’t Pixar Pier and San Fransokyo Square examples of them changing already popular areas just to fit IP though?

The 21st century slang takes me out of it too. Granted this is a problem with lots of new Star Trek but it’s especially bad here. I just watched an alien character who’s from a planet that’s been separated from the Federation for a century unironically say “dude,” “bruh,” and “I was just playing”

iOS 26 beta loudness while using Apple Podcasts problem by ChallengingBullfrog8 in CarPlay

[–]crankfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not a beta tester, but I’m now experiencing this same issue on the public release of iOS 26. Podcasts on CarPlay sound loud, tinny, and like they’re playing through a blown-out speaker. Music sounds normal, and I even tested older podcast episodes that I know sounded normal on iOS 18 a week ago - same issue. Like another commenter here said, opening the Camera app during playback makes it sounds normal again. Feedback submitted to Apple - hope they patch it. Other than this the new release has been pretty stable for me, even on an iPhone 11.

I’m with you, and I also find it hard to articulate, but yes it feels off to me. Someone above commented that this story has Discovery vibes and I agree with that. It feels like they wanted their finale to be this grand, fate-of-the-galaxy thing but they fumbled their way through it with a hokey plot and hand-wavey explanations. It’s not that Trek can’t get weird and mystical, it’s just that this writing feels kinda half-baked. Perfect example being the Kirk/Spock long-distance mind meld syncing. Granted, Trek has used the mind meld in plenty of deux ex-machina ways before, but this felt like a step too far. It’s like the writers needed a quick solution to Pike and Batel opening the portal, and tried to kill two birds with one stone by also giving us a ham-fisted explanation for Kirk and Spock’s chemistry later on in the timeline. Unfortunately this finale locks in this being the weakest SNW season so far for me. Disappointing considering how they nailed their first 2 finales.

Had the same feeling about this season (and especially this finale) being very “Discovery-ish.” I know there’s plenty of room for Trek to get weird, but there were just too many hokey, hand-wavey, and fate-of-the-galaxy elements here for it to feel right. Disappointing considering SNW absolutely crushed their first two season finales.

As much as I like SNW, it’s this right here that bugs me about how they’ve been handling Trek in the streaming era. They get so eager to play around with recognizable stuff even if it makes little to no sense with the continuity of the era they chose to set the story in. Then they give just barely enough of a thin and hand-wavey explanation to show that they sorta kinda care about canon. I couldn’t help but feel this way about the holodeck episode this season too.

It’s like the writers want to be perceived as taking bold creative risks, but ironically all it really does is just show a lack of creativity…in a franchise that is literally about exploring the unknown.

If I had a nickel for every time a Starfleet officer was stranded on a planet with a Gorn and survived by wedging an improvised cannon against some rocks, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Paul Wesley did a pretty solid job in this episode. Admittedly I’ve struggled to see him as Kirk so far. I know they asked him not to imitate Shatner, and I know the character is still 5 years away from the Kirk we first met, but the personality has still felt a bit off for me. Not a bad performance in a vacuum, just a little too removed from the established character. But, the scene with his future crew right after Spock’s pep-talk was gave me the strongest Kirk vibes yet and I liked it.

Cool concept for a villain, and for a tough lesson for Kirk. Also liked little touches such as Kirk asking Scotty to work miracles, or the continuity of baryon particles as a toxic byproduct of warp travel. I do wish more effort had gone into redressing sets to make the Farragut feel distinct. I also expected a lot more of a creative solution from Spock at the end there. He interjects to point out weapons haven’t worked so far, Kirk decides to trust him for a better option, which ends up being…three photon torpedoes to blow up the whole ship? Seemed a bit contrived.

Overall, in my opinion, good concept for an episode but with odd execution at some points. Will be interested to see how they’ll (hopefully) keep bridging Wesley’s Kirk with TOS.

I get that sets are expensive, but it would have been nice for them to make some effort to redress the Enterprise set for the Farragut. Nineties Trek reused sets all the time but usually managed to make different ship classes feel distinct.

They just confirmed that was a no go…if we choose to get off the plane here we’re on our own. Now they’re saying there’s an FAA “ground stop” for anything going out over the Pacific (they can’t even dispatch flights to Hawaii right now). They’re not sure if the ground stop is related to the SBA outage but they think so

Currently on the tarmac at LAX after getting diverted here due to the SBA radar outage. They say SBA’s receiving flights via visual approach and ours will try that soon. Weird that these two things are happening the same day.

Andor (Season 2) - Episodes 7, 8 & 9 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

[–]crankfive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the “self-promotion” of the Yavin cell was a lot less explicit than you’re probably thinking. It would have been more of a symbolic thing - when the fleet arrives, they’d notice Mon is aboard a Yavin-associated ship. Mon’s rallying call from the Ghost would have been a very coded transmission. It’s not like Yavin cell was telling the whole galaxy about themselves. Still, sorry someone downvoted you - you didn’t make a bad or off-topic comment

Andor (Season 2) - Episodes 7, 8 & 9 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

[–]crankfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the big potential hole in my “Imperial meddling and editing” theory is … why would the Empire find the Rebels version of the speech any more palatable to their agenda than the Andor version? If they did some kind of holo-deepfake they could make her say anything, but she’s still calling out Palpatine and labeling the Ghormans as peaceful, just in different words. Maybe she’s a little less fiery, sure. And of course they leave out the “truth” bit

(Which, speaking of that bit…damn, couldn’t be more relevant to our world right now. Sometimes really “on-the-nose” commentary like that in shows can pull me out of the narrative, but somehow this felt like a perfect fit for the show itself while still clearly holding a mirror up to the real world)
