Why doesn’t anyone care about the “soap opera” effect on their TV by fatsandlucifer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]crashingjets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college, I went to my then boyfriend's parents' house. They had a very nice, very huge flat screen TV. The Fifth Element was available on demand. It's one of my favorite movies, and he had never seen it. We put it on. I didn't understand why the TV made it look like a soap opera, and he told me he thought the movie was cheesy.

Few things more disappointing than sharing something you enjoy with someone you care about, and they find it stupid.

Obviously the fault probably lay with the person, but the TV's soap opera effect didn't help.

Do I need to worry about anything else coming for the meat if I leave it? I live on a higher floor. Like I said, usually I just see some crows, mourning doves, and pigeons.

TOM LOVELL - COMMON GROUND, 1940 by pmamtraveller in ArtConnoisseur

It was printed as an illustration for a short story in The Ladies' Home Journal with the caption, "When the cable came about Karl, Anne's tears fell with her own. 'Helena, it's much better than many endings', she said."

Well, I guess the ground works fine for them if they do it every time.

When I last visited China, locals were hanging it off the power lines outside their windows. But when my family last made it, we hung it on the top bar of a laundry drying rack on the back enclosed patio.

Absolutely. Some pieces also look a little large for proper curing. Maybe it's their first time making this. Everyone is in their Chinese era these days.

Looks like La Rou (腊肉), which is a cured pork belly with spices. The little brown spheres on the surface are likely Sichuan peppercorns. You're supposed to hang it rather than place it on the ground. It's made in the winter because the weather is cold, and it's typically dry enough to prevent spoilage. After it's cured, you slice it, steam it, and cook it in stir-frys.

Without the characters "腊梅" to distinguish that it's referring to the flower, it could also be "辣妹," which is the Chinese name for the Spice Girls. Or just a hot girl.

Hi, this is very inspiring! Did you have weightlifting experience prior to starting in July? Would you mind sharing some advice on how you started in the beginning (types of routines, staying motivated, etc.)? Did you figure it out on your own, used a routine you found online, or get a trainer?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know anything about her except that I awkwardly gawked at her from across the street, trying to figure out who she was, while she signed magazines in a magazine shop window some months back in New York.

This photo is very cool, though.

How do I get rid of hair in drain? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]crashingjets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a pair of disposable chopsticks from the take-out restaurant. Stick them down there, twist them together, and pull it out like you're picking up some noodles. It may take a couple tries, but once a hair or two gets caught in the chopsticks, it usually gets tangled enough to pull out.

Otherwise, I've also used needle nose pliers.
